Netflix, hulu, wii question...

We just got notice that our cable bill is going to jump up an additional $7 this month... and another $30/month in August. In the past my hubby has been able to argue... threaten to leave... to keep our cost down... And frankly we are sick of it and of this cable company... and are looking at our options. We've done DirectTV in the past... and once you get through the introduction period, boxes for all tvs... it really doesn't save us any money. And to be honest, our tv watching has changed in that most of what we watch is on network channels (PBS for kiddo)... and really the only thing that I must watch are the shows on Bravo... and Drop Dead Diva (coming back on Lifetime). So, I know we can get these on Hulu... and with Netflix streaming right to your tv, via internet connect... we really don't need cable at all.

So... here is my question... does anyone watch Hulu and/or streaming Netflixs on their TV? Does it work well? Is it full screen? Do you get any buffering delays? (we have high speed internet) Did you need to get a certain tv? How do you connect..Do you use Wii or xbox or a computer? Are there any watch outs that we should be thinking about?

We have a bluay player that streams Netflix as well as our Wii...both have really really good picture quality and we've not had any problems with skipping/buffering kinds of things...we have DSL internet.
 
We gave up cable about a year and a half ago and bought a Tivo to record network TV and stream Netflix...ended up saving us like $50 a month..now our total tv watching bill is 13 a month for tivo and 14 a month for netflix 2 at a time plan. DD watches all of her disney shows on instant watch...plus they have quite a few pbs shows for younger kids available. Only thing anyone really misses is DH misses his ESPN.

If I want to watch something on Hulu have to do it on the computer though.
 
we have netflix for the wii, and the only time we have buffering issues is if we are doing something massive on the internet at the same time(like if I try to download a kit, lol). we love it, and I seriously use it almost daily.
 
We use Netflix through our Wii as well. We love it! The picture quality is great and we've never had a problem with buffering at all. We have DishTV and Cable internet as well. I don't know if any of that makes a difference, but . . .
 
We watch Netflix streaming to our Tivo. We love it. The only time we have problems is if we are using the computer a lot while watching Netflix. We have Verizon FIOS internet.
 
We use the Playstation to do Netflix, and yes, even with high speed, we occasionally get some buffering issues, but never enough to bother about it. I'm working hard at the moment, to get my DH to agree to this, too, as there's nothing so important that we can't wait a day or two to see it on Hulu, except for some Friday nite cartoons that they watch together.

If I could, I'd jump on it!

We also have a computer set up for our television so that we can do things like HULU, etc on the big screen (I live with a computer geek...we have more computers in the house than living beings. But it's our media center where we store all the movies and CD's that we've copied from our collection in case we damage or scratch them, and our photos.)
 
We love netflix through our Wii. Best thing I've ever done! I'm really tempted to try and cut the Directv but I don't think my husband would go for it come football season! Or baseball season, or baskeball for that matter ;-)
 
We have netflix for the Wii. I don't have cable internet. During the day I can wtach just fine but during peak internet useage times, like 7pm at night, it buffers too much & takes too long to reasonably watch things. That is entirely due to my internet connection speed though. I like having Netflix on the TV.

LOL--your DH sounds like mine. The kids and I could give up DirectTV and never know the difference, but I'm pretty sure DH would move out!

We have netflix for the wii too .. hmmm wonder if I was downloading at the time we were watching that last show?? I hadn't even made the connection that I could have possibly caused that buffering pause ... plus it was also on a Friday or Saturday night. We have a lot of computers on our cable network ... and I am betting there were at least 3 computers running at the time ... who knows what the 21yo was doing at the time we were watching.

Keep in mind that only certain things are available for online watching of Netflix ... most of what I want to watch are still on disks and they come in the mail. However I have been extremely pleased with the speed of shipping with Netflix... generally I send in a disk on say Monday...they get it Tuesday and ship out my next disk on Tuesday and I receive it on Wednesday. I am in the 2 disk program. It sure is tons cheaper than buying those TV on DVD sets!

If you are a member of Upromise ... make sure you are "signed in" and sign up for Netflix through Upromise and you'll get I think $12 in your Upromise account...I made the mistake of using a promo code (which didn't get me anything more than a regular sign up does) and I didn't get the $12 in my son's account.
