INVITE1tokeepblocked.jpg

This is an invitation I made ( using Penny's Hopscotch kit from the Summer collection ) for my Dad's 70th b-day party. His favorite car that he owned when he was young was a 1957 Ford Thunderbird so I used that on the invite. So anyway I was wondering if all you creative girlies could help me out and throw some ideas at me as far as decorations, prizes for some games and maybe something else I am not thinking of.....The theme is Classic Cars

thanks girls and yes you too Aaron if you are reading this!!!!! Would like to get your opinion of what you would like to see if you were turning 70!!!!!

Could you do some other stuff from the 50's, if that was sort of his "young" years? It might bring back some memories...sort of like the 90's does for me ROFL

Yeah, I was going to suggest those cardboard cars. They're not expensive and there's a bunch of different colours and models. Fun for centerpieces, to hold goodies, use as candy dishes, etc.

There's also some very cool wall decorations you can get. Find a place that carries Scene Setters. Super easy to put up and some seriously cool stuff. For a 60th birthday party last year, we turned the whole side area into a 50s diner/malt shop type setting using them.

Here's a classic car one from their selection:

I made a lot of our own decorations. For example, most of these party companies have records for party themes of these eras, but it was much cheaper and way cooler for me to go to the thrift shop and grab old records. I then made my own labels for them using photos and a lot of fun themes, and turned them into decorations and bases for centerpieces.

I checked out all of those links and I love all the stuff....thanks so much, I don't think I ever would have found those on my own!!!

this is probably not much, but what about adding like some records on strings as decorations?

Yep, I am thinking of that...I think my Dad has some laying around the house somewhere...just gotta find them!!!! I also need to find out what he actually listened to as well!!

Doing your own labels for them is fun and it was a HUGE hit at our party. Think along the lines of digiscrapping a CD album hybrid project. I'll try to upload some of the labels I made later and show you.

That would be really great...thanks so much

You could do a cd of favorite songs of your dad's life as party favors and print some cute labels with a car on it and some sort of clever title to do with his age and the music...(I am not able to think of anything on that though LOL)

Go to a toy store there are some really cool scale model cars out there. My hubby bought me one for my desk which is a plum crazy 1970 'Cuda. I know there are many Thunderbirds out there. They also make some really cool t-shirts with all kinds of classic cars on them. Both of those would make good prizes Id think

Those are great ideas...just gotta find out what music he listened to first!!! He was usually too busy fixing up his cars to care about much else!!!!
