Need help from the ladies..

I need mommy advice (no sillys not for me..) but my little sister is having her first baby, a little boy, and I'm making her a tag album with different bits of advice and I'm stuck as to what to put in there.

What little tidbits or fun info can you give me to include?
 
my Aunt always says, "What baby wants, baby gets!":)

I'll give it some more thought and give you some actual useful advice in a bit!
 
You can't spoil a baby, it's just love.

They will be 15 and use too much Axe spray before you know it...LMBO...JK

Don't let people make you feel bad for your mothering abilities. If your baby needs a binkie - give it to him. If he wants to eat - feed him. Nobody knows your baby better than you do.

That is excellent advice for a first time mom Paula! Don't ever let anyone make you feel like there is a "right" way to do things!
 
When the baby naps, you nap. Don't do laundry, or clean the house, or cook dinner, SLEEP. Trust me.

AMEN!

There's a quote I used on a layout once...it said something like cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the snow while it's still snowing. Heeeeheee I like that one.

This isn't baby appropriate but one of my favorites of all times is choose your battles wisely ;)
 
Here's one..

"Pack away anything and everything you don't want gnawed on or broken, for about 20 years."

Obviously..I don't have kids. :)
 
My main one would be to take pictures of EVERYTHING. and I mean everything. Because those days are so precious and they disappear all to quickly. I didn't take many photos of my babies when they were very small (didn't have a digicam back then) and that is my main regret. Make sure to savor and pay close attention to the little moments because life just goes so darn fast!
 
It's okay to pick a binkie up off the floor, pop it in your mouth to clean it and then put it in babies.

Okay that sort of makes me sounds like a bad mom but oh well...it's life!

Don't sweat the transitions...I guarantee you your child won't go to Kindergarten in diapers or still taking a bottle....so in the meantime, give yourself a break!

Oh, and if you want practical type advice, for boys...ALWAYS have a little washcloth with you during diaper changes and cover his little guy up or you may just get a little shower! Wouldn't hurt to brush up on your diaper changing skills so you can be QUICK! Boys are good at surprises! ;)
 
Having 4 boys you would think I could come up with something but I am having twin brain right now and cannot......Oh, I know one thing: Make him see that the best woman he will ever love is YOU !!!!!! That way no other girl will compare :)
 
my advice....don't put them in the bed with you...ever...or there still be there when they start kindergarten...i give this advice to everyone...can you tell i have a toddler in my bed...
 
My babies all slept with me until they were two. One thing that I love - my almost 15 year old son will come in and ask if he can snuggle with me for a few minutes before we get up and ready for school. I LOVE that he isn't ashamed to snuggle with his mama even if he's a big, tough teenager! LOL

Really? This isn't my experience :) Nathan slept with me for 4 months and then we moved him out (we had a small bed though LOL) and Naomi slept with me for 15 months and then we moved her out....the transition was interesting....a rough couple of nights!... but after that, no problems! :thumbup:

Cosleeping or not is a very personal decision but I'm LOL at the kindergarten comment....:p
 
Lena, Mason still tries to sleep with us and he's in Kindergarten! LOL!

We didn't co-sleep with the kids, but when Mason got sick we started letting him sleep with us as a comfort thing for him (it started at the hospital, he was supposed to be in a crib because he was under 3 years old, but we got him put into a bed and then I'd snuggle with him until he fell asleep). Anyhow, we BARELY convinced him to stop sleeping with us before he started school...and occasionally we'll wake up with him between us, or he'll sneak in after Daddy gets up (at 6:30 am) and just sleep with me.

Natalie has never slept in our bed, and has no problems not sleeping in our bed. LOL!
 
Here's a couple tricks I learned with my kids:

When giving babies a bath, soak a washcloth in the water and place it on their tummy - it will keep them calm (and warm) while you are washing the rest of them with another cloth. Also, it helps for pics, lmao...strategically placed. ;)

The other thing is that if a baby is crying and you are not sure why, when they are crying, take your finger and put it on their chin and pull down their bottom lip. If their tongue is stuck to the top of their mouth, it means they have gas. I learned that one from a nurse, and it worked like a charm.
 
Here's one I learned WELL with baby #2:

If your baby has colic, turn the hairdryer on and place it near their head (but not blowing on them.

Also, if you have to give your baby medicine - give it to them, then blow in their face very softly, they will swallow it down real quick.

So I'm going to be on my third kid soon and I haven't figured either of these out. Great advice!
