DH got me a new Canon 7D for Christmas/Anniversary and it came today! I've only had time to get it out and feel it in my hands but I love it already lol. After the kids go to bed tonight I hope to play with it some and then really break it in tomorrow. I got a new lens too - EF 28-135 IS USM so I can't wait to play with it either!

Just had to share here b/c I think you all appreciate these kinds of new toys better than my real life friends and family do..they just don't get it lol :p

Congrats Nikki!! I am sooo excited for you! :)

I love mine! and...I'll be in Mississippi for two weeks starting this Sunday. PM me if you want to go on a little photo walk! :)

Awesome!!! You will have to let me know how you like it so I can add it to my wishlist... ;)

awesome...and yes please let us know how you LOVE it :) I want to upgrade form the Canon T1i to the 7D :) What did you upgrade form?

You came to the right place....we totally get it  My sister and I both have Nikons but she's thinking about switching to Canon. Can't wait to hear how you like yours!

Awesome! I'm so jealous! My D70 is running on his last, I need to replace it with a newer version soon. Have fun with your new toy! :)

You have a D70, Kim? We totally have loads of things in common. That was my camera before I decided to go for something smaller to save my back. I sold the D70 this summer and I shed a few tears when I did so. :-)

And congrats, Nikki! Enjoy!

Haha, I think we do have a lot in common! :) I could never go back to just a regular point and shoot though, but I would like to have one in addition one day to carry around in my purse. It is a pain sometimes to carry the big camera bag around in some places, like at the amusement park for example!
I've had my camera for 5 - 6 years, but I still feel like I'm not completely mastering it. Taking a photography class in the near future is high on my list!

The top-level P&S segment (the one where you can shoot in 100% manual mode) is a very interesting one, and it's becoming even more interesting these days (I'm hoping VERY much that Canon G13 will come with a huge sensor. I could give up zoom if they did this). I actually got my P&S (Canon G9, later G10 because the first got stolen) only as a side-kick camera for D70, but it ended up with me using only the G10... Since I'm having back pain even without carrying a heavy camera, I'm quite happy with the situation.

But these days even the DSLRs are much lighter than the D70 was (well, depends on the model, Canon 7D is even heavier IMHO). I never felt like I was able to use the full potential of any camera either, I prefer to learn by experience, and that takes much longer than a course. Still for DSLR photography a course is a great idea. Good luck with your photography class and your new camera if you get one!

As for things in common - I noticed at your FB page that we were even born in the same year. :-)

Thanks!!! I've been playing with it all morning and love it! And it really happened lol...
