my dh is quite possibly the most difficult person

We had Felicity Jane picked out for our baby. Which we didnt tell anyone because we thought alot of people wouldnt like it and we didnt want to hear the "you want to call her that??!!". But i personally think its lovely and feminine and not too popular, but not unpronounceable or weird....We ended up with a boy tho and called him Thomas Michael. :) im sure it will be back on our list if we ever have a girl tho as its the only girls name we agree on!

ANd I think it is just WRONG that we spend our childhoods picking out our children's names, and then these men, who have never in their entire lives thought about what they might name their children, think they should have a right in naming the kids.

Im totally with you there Kellie!

Another issue I had was the differences in origins - It took me 3 days to let him name our first Natalie. Our second was named b4 she was born if she turned out to be a girl. Her Grandma was Yuseline which translated to Jocelyn - we found Jaslyn in an book of names in the library and since we both loved it we stopped looking.

My mum was Audrey - I wasnt inclined to use it for my dd's tho. Same went with the middle name I shared with her - Winifred was never going to be in my preferred list. Not all heritage names are an honor to pass on!! Fanny and Anus were 2 others that never made it to the current generation!! No guesses as to why there!!

GL with your decision!

Emmy -

Love Grace, with Hazel... my first thought - as we were leaving the park the other day overheard some poor girl with being called " Hazy Hazel " in that sing-song way - not that we can or should protect them from all hurts, but something to keep in mind?

DH and I are also traditional... in spelling even. Some from our girl's list:

Cora Mae
Rebecca Lynn

all the best with the names!

Well, I'm not one for 'trendy' and 'unique' names...but to each his own.

Hubby and I had a doozy of a time deciding on Rachel Elyse's name, mainly because I vetoed so many names. After having taught for 16 years at that point, I was VERY opinionated about names...so many of them brought to mind horribly behaved children. Who knew that so many Ryans and Brittanys were poorly behaved? LOL. Anyways, I got a couple of baby name books at the library, and we each sat down and made lists of which names we liked. Then we checked out both lists for a name we actually did agree on. I think in the end, there were two names we agreed on, Rachel being one of them. It was not my choice, really...actually it was pretty far down my list, but it WAS there. I told hubby since he was the one who actually picked out her first name, I was picking the middle one.

I love Jane Isabella and Cory and Ruby are so pretty. Claire is one of my top choices and for some reason it doesn't click with DH.

He tends to get attached early and then won't discuss options. ugh! I do love Madeline but wasn't sure if it was over-used now, seems like we know a lot of little girls with that name. I know Hazel is getting "out there" in terms of being a bit dated but I think it's on its way back. Julia Roberts names her daughter Hazel, it's moved up in popularity consistently over the last 9 years (social security website info) and there are a few threads on babycenter from various birth months with moms loving that name.

Isabella is definitely a fave of mine but I think DH is scared I'll call her Bella (a la twilight). Which is funny cause our boy names were George and Edward ;)

Jane and Claire would be really pretty.....

i love picking out names - so much fun :) but also hard to come to a decision with DH - LOL! my DH is french, so we wanted names that worked in both countries (at least from a pronunciation view in the US) ... our first two girls are Audrey Grace and Juliette Louise ... other names on the list for future kids are: girls -> Genevieve, Pascale, Jane and Kate boys -> Pascal (obviously wouldn't use it if we named a girl pascale - LOL), oscar (DH and i love this - the rest of the family hates it so much i cannot even describe! LOL) ... boy names are difficult for us - but i don't think there's any way we'll have more than 2 more kids, so we're OK :)

I guess I can sympathize a little bit with you. When we found out I was pregnant with DS, we both just agreed that we would name him after my DH, Sean. But until we found out, I was the one causing problems. Since I have been working with children for over 10 yrs, they are just certain names I could NEVER use, because I just associate them with that rotten kid.
What about Charlotte, Sarah, or Mary?

well at least you have a bit of time still.....I'm due is like.....8 days and if this baby is a boy he will be nameless because we CAN NOT decide!!!! :cursing: We do have a girls name......so if it's a girl we are ok. Here are some of the girl's names I liked....but you mihgt not like them since I tend to like unisex names for my girls (hence me having a Sydney Paige and a Reese Elizabeth).

Bryce
Campbell
Teagan
Reagen
Quinn
Camryn

Good luck with the naming Emmy....it's so hard!!!!!

Teaching SUCKS when you try to name your kids and I'd only taught for 5 years, not 16. I am frankly surprised some days that we could name them at all. :D

Emmy, I love Madeline & Isabelle :)

E, you need to go with Hazel and Ruby. Definitely not trendy, and they go with your boys' classic names.

Isabella is, like, one of the top 5 most popular names in gurl world right now. I cannot even tell you how many Isabellas (and Sophias and Madelines) I know of under the age of 6.

This is me too, with coaching skating. I have coached hundreds of kids, some rotten little brats too, and because of it, they ruined a lot of names for me.
