My Computer DIED

I think it is much more stable as well. I haven't had any of my Macs crash on me yet - and my PC was crashing on me all the time.

I would agree it's more stable in general but I must be really hard on my computers because I've still managed to get my Mac to crash. Just yesterday I walked away from it and came back and the screen was frozen. So it does happen, it's just less so. The nice thing I've noticed is when things get stuck and you get the spinning beach ball of doom, if you leave it for a few minutes, it will almost always sorts itself out where as on my PC it never ever did and would always required a hard restart.

Yeah, the time Apple ran commercials regarding their "lack of viruses", they immediately got targeted by hackers and the pulled the commercials.

Win7 has homesharing, all computers on your home network can all connect and share files. Plus you can run BitLocker, special software to encrypt your drive to protect the contents. You can also protect portable devices like USB memory and such. My tech/geeky friend also swears Win7 is totally plug and play now (finally!)...

And now I really, really want that new computer, LOL! I'm wondering if there's any way I can convince my DH that he needs my old laptop so I can get a new one...*sigh*.

Truce girls! I just saw 8 of you espousing the benefits of a Mac...I felt the need to compensate with my own assessment of the PC. I hope I've been around long enough for you to know that I respect everyone here and definitely don't mean anything personal by any of this! :o

What should we discuss next? COKE vs PEPSI??

BEACH BALL OF DOOM??

That's funny!!

I used to work as a programmer...my favorite "inside joke" was to suggest to someone that their error was an "I-D-TEN-T" error, and then quickly follow up with several likely solutions.

written differently...it's the ID10T - otherwise known as "user error"...:p

If all you are going to do is scrapbooking with it, go for the Mac, really that is what they were built for. Laptops are expensive no matter what if they are worth a darn. Lots of good arguments here and it sounds like you are already decided (just need ammunition for DH)! Just note that programs like Photoshop/Elements/ACDSee etc do tend to take a while longer for the newest upgrades to come out. But unless you HAVE to have it right away...they do tend to come out.

That being said I'm a PC girl. I've had two dell laptops with minimal problems (both lasted over 3 years with me constantly using them. I did just have a graphics card die on me after 3.5 years, we ordered a new one, followed instructions and it worked immediately. But in the waiting...we also ordered a new laptop, this one:
laptop-alienware-m17x-design4.jpg

Alienware M17x with 8gigs of RAm and a 500gig HD (I use externals mostly)and a super duper graphics card and the fastest processor out there. But all of this is overkill mostly due to my DH is a gamer and it will be "shared" between us. But most of the time it will be my AWESOME machine. Oh and we installed Win7 on our computers now and LOVE it so far.

And yes after the last commercial about Macs not getting viruses, they started popping up. So if I were you Mac users, I'd be all "nod nod wink wink" about that so they don't "hear" you! LOL

But like I said, if you are straight up going for only scrapbooking, then go for it, just expect to pay $$.

There is a reason why the industry of designers, photographers and the lot use mostly Macs! And Photoshop originally was programmed for a Mac, not a PC.

Do you really need a Mac as a scrapper? No, I don't think so. If you get an high end PC you should be fine. But if you can afford it, I would get a Mac!

Oh boy I want a Mac so bad, but there is just not the budget for it right now, there is even not a budget to get a new PC or replacing our dodgy laptop.

Yes Photoshop was made for Macs i forgot about that.

Here's an unbiased, fully explained comparison by multiple programmers at CNet of Mac's OS, Snow Leopard vs. PC's Windows 7, for your own decision making process: http://reviews.cnet.com/2722-19589_7-314.html

My mom has windows 7 and is it just me or did they design it to work like a Mac OS?

Haha KIM!!!!, my DH LOVES Alienwares...they're great for gaming, but talk about expensive! The one my DH wanted was over 3 grand haha. But actually, now he wants a Macbook after seeing me play with my iMac for a few months....those still make him drool though!

thank you guys so much for your opinions :) DH I think is still probably going to convince me to get a PC laptop and really I am OK with that {especially since he is the computer geek around the house :) }..plus if he's buying, I ain't arguing :p but I really do appreciate all of your responses and actually taking the time to go so in depth eith your personal experiences :) please if anybody has anything else to add, feel free :)

Not Beckie, but I agree they are expensive...but DH was paying so we got what he wanted. So I'm going to have a bad a$$ lappy I guess LOL! I wonder if the special effect will glow pink, that would be cool. And yes the Win 7 does seem to veer towards the Mac OS styling, but that is understandable because they are trying to "win" those people back/over. KWIM. I'm just glad there is competition in the marketplace and we all have a choice for our own tastes/desires.

Yes photoshop was originally developed in Macs/Apples whatever. But they still come out with new updates for the PCs first for some reason.

But no matter what Ang...get LOTS of RAM, lots lots lots!! That is the #1 thing that I've found that makes a difference no matter the platform!

Hey Meg - I was going to comment on Kim's post about that pimped out Alienware that I just couldn't live with a black and red system. (No self respecting Gator would...)

:) I think it was made for you!
