Music Recommendations

I need some recommendations for music to put on a play list for the kids and me. Either kids songs that don't drive adults nutso or pop music that is family friendly (in both lyrics and general theme). Fun, upbeat and good for dancing are a plus. Kiddos are 7 and 4.

So far we have music from Curious George 2, the They Might be Giants stuff for kids (and some of their old pop stuff) and Summer from Phineas and Ferb.

But I need more variety.

Lay it on me.

Laurie Berkner

and I just downloaded the new Fresh Beat Band Album and they kids have not stopped listening to it for 2 days. We love them :)

I love Elizabeth Mitchell's albums! My favorite is You Are My Sunshine.

I was going to say Go Fish, and am so excited that others of you mentioned them! They're hometown boys here, and we love them!

The Fresh Beat album is on our shopping list. LOL.

Things she is loving right now:
The Princess Who Saved Herself by Jonathan Coulton
It's Raining Sunshine by Miranda Cosgrove
If You Can Dream and It's Not Just Make-Believe (off of Disney Princess comp albums)
Fireflies by Owl City
We are Family by Sister Sledge
Firework by Katy Perry

We like the Plain White Tees, and my kids are fond of Queen, too, because they have good taste like their mom. ; )

This album doesn't make me want to dance, but it has been teachiing my kids praise songs, and I listen to it even when they're not around. Great Worship Songs for Kids

Someone once recommended typing Raffi into Pandora, and I've discovered a lot of good music through them. Now that I've thumbs downed a lot of the super cheesy ones I'm getting some good ones and the better versions of some of the cheesier songs that the kids love. They play a lot of non-kid, but kid appropriate music, too. Right now is "Say Hey (I Love You) by Franti & Spearhead, and my 2 yo is mad at me for sitting to type this to you because we stopped dancing. I better get back to it! ;)

I was going to say Dan Zanes. He's incredible.

Also, They Might Be Giants kids albums are quite good.

I also really like Steve Songs -even my eight and ten year old can't resist his Pirate Song. :)

Dan Crow -- I don't know if you will be able to find him, but if you can his songs are sooooo worth it. He was popular when me and hubby were younger. He was a teacher that published some of the songs he sang in his classroom. They are silly songs, but truefully hubby and I have never gotten annoyed with them because they are so silly. We actually sing along with the girls when this CD comes on in the car.

We love all disney music. The Meet the Robinson's soundtrack is especially good. Even my husband loves it. Here are some of the songs on my son's playlist. Tron Soundtrack. All-star and Why Can't We be Friend's by Smash Mouth. Everything Little Thing She Does is Magic and De Doo Da Da by the Police. Papa love Mambo by Perry Como. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, The Final Countdown by Europe. Fool in the Rain by Led Zeppelin. Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts. 1,2,3,4 by the Plain White T's. I'm Shipping up to Boston by The Dropkick Murphy's. Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters. Limelight and Spirit of Radio by Rush. Carmina Burana by Mozart. I like to move it, move it from Madagascar. Mr. Roboto by Styx. We Will Rock You by Queen. We basically just don't limit them to kids music. They like to listen to lots of different things just like we do. You can find plenty of things that are appropriate for them in your music catalog!
