motrin question..

lauren grier

you're like stars
ce is fevery.. I don't have a thermometer so I can't be sure 100% .. but he's hot, and a wet wash cloth isn't really cooling him down. it's 11p though so I can't run to the store to get motrin.. I know the chewables for kiddos are 100mg each tab.. can I cut one of MY motrins in half and give that to him (they're 200mg).. or is that like a big no no? I just want him to be able to get some rest tonight you know..

Hmm, I don't know either, do you have an ask a nurse line? I know we have one here thats 24 hours and it can be really helpful.

no.. unfortunately :[ that's the only negative point towards his current pedi.. no 24hr line. I'm trying to think if there's a 24hr pharmacy around here that I could call..

lol or this all may not even matter.. he just passed out. maybe the wiping him down helped just took a lil bit.

I found the dosing by weight online btw... I mean it IS the same thing right? lol.. it's not like there's anything different in the adult ones.. they're just not happy flavoured and chewable right?
-> there it is...... I think it'd be safe.. he's around 40lbs so he could really have a lil more than half. If he wakes up again and is hot I'll give him some..

* Children 12 to 17 lbs or 6 to 11 mo of age, give 50 mg.
* Children 18 to 23 lbs or 12 to 23 mo of age, give 75 mg.
* Children 24 to 35 lbs or 2 to 3 yr of age, give 100 mg.
* Children 36 to 47 lbs or 4 to 5 yr of age, give 150 mg.
* Children 48 to 59 lbs or 6 to 8 yr of age, give 200 mg.
* Children 60 to 71 lbs or 9 to 10 yr of age, give 250 mg.
* Children 72 to 95 lbs or 11 yr of age, give 300 mg.

pretty sure it's ok..as long as it's the tablet...is it scored? if so that would be a sure thing it's ok to half..my oldest daughter takes 1 and 1/2 ibuprofen (kroger brand advil lol) so I would think it would be ok

It is the same. They do the chewables and liquids because most kids won't actually swallow a pill. I always give it with milk or toast to prevent stomach upset.

A little late to answer now...but... yeah it's fine. They go by mg so it doesn't matter if it's adult or for kids. Another thing you can do La, is alternate between that and Tylenol if he has a stubborn fever. As often as every 3 hrs if it's really high (like when Kassi's was hanging over 104 last week) but that's what the ped told us as last resort so ask the dr. first.
Hope Ce is feeling better now.

I'm a little late, but definetely alternate tylenol and motrin to break his fever...every 3 hours ..I just had to do this with Peyton about 2 weeks ago {and since I work at a hospital I verified with one of the docs that this was ok}....plus she told me if I did not break his fever in 24 hours with the alternating that I would definetely bring him in~hope he feels better La~
