So my daughter Julia got her ears pierced end of September. About 2 weeks ago something happened with the left ear. I don't know if hair got tangled up with the earring or what but the earring wasn't sitting right in the ear and the ear was red. We were washing the ear with the solution hoping it would get better. When I was drying her hair one day, I must have done something, pulled the hair, which might have been close to the earring and there was a little bit of blood coming from the piercing. We decided to take the earring out and let the ear heal. It was a huge ordeal. She wouldn't do it herself and she wouldn't allow me to touch her ear. My husband had to get involved. Now the ear looks fine not but Julia is refusing to put the earring back in her ear. How long does it take for the hole to close up? If it does, I know she won't return to get the ear pierced again any time soon.
 
What kind of earring is it? Just wondering because when I got my ears pierced at age 12 I developed a metal allergy. I know it developed then because it was so bad that even the button on my pants would give me a rash. It hurts like crazy, and my ears were a gooey bleeding mess if I wore the wrong kind of earrings. I had to go with at least 18 karat gold for the longest time. Now I seem to be okay as long as I use the fish hook type of earrings, and only wear them once or twice a week.

You can always suggest putting some antibiotic ointment on the post. It'll help it slide in easier and it'll help everything else heal too. It may hurt to put it in, so sometimes I would come in from the back if I had trouble with the front.
 
The earring we got at Clair'es are white gold plated. Definitely not 18K. Her right ear is fine. She is very panicky and so afraid of pain. I'm just afraid that if she won't put the earring back in, the hole will close up. And it might hurt more to get it re-pierced again. Right now she just wears one earring. She won't take it out.
 
Right after my daughter got her ears pierced one of the earrings got tangled in a girl's hair at school. It pulled the earring right out (didn't hurt her ear) but my daughter started screaming blood murder (right in class)!!!!

It was a HUGE ordeal to the earring back in. She cried, screamed, hid, and locked herself in the bathroom! Luckily she put the earring back in herself.

That was nearly two years ago - and she hasn't changed her earrings since. Darn kid!!

She threw up and fainted when we got her ears pierced so we should have known!!! I scrapped it:

I would put some neosporin ointment on the stud part, and tell her that it will help it slide right in without pain. It really does help! To ease her fears you can hold ice over the earlobe for 2 minutes then spray the ear with a numbing topical first-aid (something like Bactine). Then, slide the lubricated earring back in! I had lots of issues with healing & irritation when I got my ears pierced at the age of 10, so we had to put ointment on it all the time. It actually helped me to take the earrings out often, soak them in alcohol and clean my ears, then re-insert the earrings. :)

I've had big trubbles with earrings due to allergies. It almost closed up at one point and I had my bf at the time push it through. Now I only wear titanium earrings and don't have any trouble what so ever. There are special cleaning soloutions for piercings you can get and see if it helps.
 
My 12 yr old is pannicky ad hates the pain as well and something similar happened. She begged to take em out and just let them be, so I did. I do not if they have not been in long they will close up in just a few days even. After 6 months dd's were closed relatively quickly (diff daughter and unfortunately she didnt want them to close but they did)
 
i've always had trouble with earrings due to allergies. my left ear is more sensitive than my right ear and gets red and swollen really fast while my right takes longer before it has a reaction. i always have reactions to claire's earrings. you might try getting some studs from a jewelry company and see how those do.
 
I have no experience with earrings on my daughter. :( She is 7 1/2 years old and desperately wants me to let her get ear rings - but I'm so nervous about it!
 
i found their aftercare instructions online and it says:

"EAR LOBE PIERCINGS: Leave ear piercing earrings in your ear for at least 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the ear piercing earrings can be removed and other post type earrings can be inserted. Post earrings must be worn at all times for the first 6 months to ensure that your ear piercing will remain the proper size."

so sorry you're both having to go through it! ears are so sensitive.

This. It also depends how long they've been in and what the problem is. Whatever is making it bleed might affect how long it takes to close up. There's really no good way to guess. (On the other end of the spectrum, I've had earrings out for years at a time and the holes never close up, so I get a bit frustrated when people say "you can always just take them out and they'll close up!" It's such an individual thing.)
 
It could be the earrings. My best friend's daughter can only wear the titanium earrings...even the gold earrings get her ears infected.
