My daughter is puppet-crazy, so I made her a set of cute fingerpuppets out of felt! I'm in love with them. I saw similar ones on etsy, but couldn't afford $5 a piece... now I'm just going to sew up some more. I think we need a Mermaid. What else should I try?
Ummmmmmmmmmmm, I TOTALLY agree with Deb! Those are FREAKING ADORABLE! Can you send me some, lol??? Definately get a store, I'd definately buy them. Did you make them up out of your head, or did you have a pattern??
I sketched out the designs, didn't have a pattern. Then I just cut pieces. I have little scraps of paper that I used as my patterns for each little piece so I could make identical puppets if I wanted. The one shop on Etsy that does these only really does simple animals, no princesses or knights or anything so it's not like I'm 'copying' her. They take me about an hour each to make though, so I definitely wouldn't be making much more than covering costs.
Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone! I'm SO proud of them myself!! This is the first time I've tried anything like this.
Those are absolutely adorable!! Seriously! My girls are a little older, but I can totally see them making up little shows with them. I would SO buy those!
OMG those are so freaking cute!!! The peacock is my fave but the princesses and the kitties are just adorable too. Wow - just WOW - at all the detail you put on them!
Those are amazing! I really wish I knew how to sew, because my daughter would love them. You'll have to show us the mermaid when you get it done. My DD is obsessed with mermaids right now.
I'd say if you charge a certain amount for a set, you'd make a good per-hour amount on those... and hey, if they sell great (which I'm sure they will!) you can always up the prices a little here and there!
I might have to attempt one or two. My Evie is puppet crazy! She makes puppets out of her socks. Yes, the socks on her feet. She does it everytime she gets ready for bed. She calls it saying hello. The Easter Bunny is going to bring a puppet or two.
Ideas - what about an owl, a monkey, a cardinal (red bird). My girls are really into dinosaurs and jungle animals.
stop it!!! those are probably some of the most adorable hand crafted things i've EVER seen!!!!! those little people and that peacock...and the dragon....all of them are so detailed!!!! sooooooo cute!!
what else could you make? hmmm...
mouse
more people
little fairy girls
sheep
bunny
monkey
I completely understand not making much on your time if you sold them, but what if you marketed them but also packaged the patterns & instructions for download. I bet you'd make a mint on selling the patterns, which would offset the money not made on making actual puppets.
You know what else you could do Lindy? You can totally sell the patterns for them! I have seen lots of fun kids toys patterns on Etsy. Just take your patterns, trace them onto a sheet of paper with a good black marker, give basic instructions, and a supply list. You could sell the set pattern for around $5, and all you really have to do is email the customer the pdf pattern set.
My sister and her friend do this for their shop (they sell crochet patterns), and they have made SO many sales... its really easy $$, and it doesn't really take that much time at all. If you do that though, make sure you say that they are personal use only, so you don't have people making your patterns and selling them for profit !
What kind of felt did you use? Wool? How do you cut them out without the edges looking all frayed and lame? I tried to make stuff out of felt before, and my edges looked all fuzzy and ragged. Maybe my scissors just weren't sharp enough.
I have seen some really cute barrettes with felted designs for little girls... maybe by the time dd has enough hair, I will be able to figure them out.
