So we ran to the video store and parked beside "this". DH just ran is so the kids and I sat for AT LEAST 10 minutes (if not 15) before anyone came out and got in this vehicle!!!!

What you see is a small girl on the far side of the back seat probably 3 to 5 years of age all alone with all the windows down and NOT in a car seat. What you can't see if the infant in the carseat nearest me probably about the same age as my g-man (18 months) if not younger, ALL ALONE IN THE FREAKING CAR!!!!! :cursing:

How freaking STUPID can people be!?!?! I mean anyone could have come up and did anything to those kids!!!! I swear I wanted to call the police so bad!!!! Arggg....I know there are some parents out there that are idiots and lots of stuff doesn't surprise me.......but man.....this really really ticked mo off tonight!!!!

:cursing::cursing::cursing:

i would've called the police in a hot second. that is negligence!!! i swear some people should not be able to procreate. EVER.

I would've called the cops, too, unfortunately, there's no way they would've gotten there before the parents came out. Did you say anything to the person getting in the car?

this has happened to me before...I got out at Walmart and there was a baby in a minivan asleep next to me. It made me physically ill. I didn't know what to do. I waited for a while by the car and then I went in and told the customer service desk. She called 911. Everyone in line told me next time I ever find that to call 911 immediately and make sure you know the car plates. At least that way, they can track them a bit. On my way back in to Walmart from getting the plates, the family came out...dad, mom, and another about 3 year old kid. I got so irritated I yelled at them...DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!!

I'm not really a dramatic passionate person...but that really got my juices flowing! I'm getting shaky just thinking about it again!

thats sad...when they came back to the car where did they come from? Im guessing the video store?? I mean I could see if they were maybe talking to someone like a car over where they could still see the kids but even then still not a good idea. I cannot tell you how many times I hear on the news that someone just ran into their house or into the gas station for a second and someone comes along and steals the car.

*sigh* why do people insist on being sucky parents?!?!

I was at the grocery store a couple of years ago and there was a car parked next to me with ALL of the windows rolled down and two kids (ages four and five) in the car unbuckled. The four year old boy was LITERALLY climbing in and out of the car. He'd go out the window, over the windsheild, over the roof, and back in the other window. It was insane. I went in and told a manager and he had the audacity to tell me that there was nothing he could do!! So I went back outside and called 911 and they came. Good thing too, because right as they were pulling up, the climbing boy fell out of the window onto his head. He was fine, but the cops sure were pissed at mom, who was inside doing her weekly shopping. I told the cops what the store mananger told me and he was ALL over him, chewing him out for negligence on his property, etc.

*shaking head* some people...

Wow, some people. I get so mad, too, when I see someone driving down the road with a kid just climbing all over the seats. Makes me want to get out and slap them upside the head.

WTH is wrong with people? Are you kidding me? I get all jittery inside if I can't see my kid for a second when we are at the park or something. There are no circumstances where that is ok. Did you say anything when the parents came out?

That is disgusting! Things happen faster than a blink of the eye... we had a case here in Northeastern Wisconsin of a lady who left like 4 kids in the car as she ran into the hardware store and the car started on fire... and I think only one child survived... the really sad (and scary) is that the lady was a day care owner and the children that died weren't even her's! She is currently spending time for wrongful death.

We've seen this before at Taco Johns. Sad thing is the parents had one kid inside with them and left the other in the vehicle and it was winter. We called the cops and then sat and waited until the cops came, but I don't know what happened after that.

I think I would have called the police...jeesh I never left my kids alone in the car until they were 13 yo...and that made me nervous that someone would call on me even then! They just laid back and played their video games...car door locked...and a phone with them in case they needed to call me while inside (but never in cold winter or heat of summer!) ...and they are teens!

We just had one of those video chains open up here...do you like them? We got a coupon to use them this past week.

I totally would've called the police!!

I saw something similar in Alaska, in the middle of winter!!! The baby (yes...baby....maybe 6 months old) was bundled up with a bottle propped. The baby was screaming...milk running everywhere. I stood outside the car making sure she was ok for at least 10 minutes until the dad came out. This was many years ago...long before the time of cell phones or of it even being against the law. I chewed him out...upside, downside and everywhere in between!! I would be surprised if he ever left his child alone in a car again!! LOL!!

That is awful!!

I went to Wal-mart one time, and saw two babies - one was about two years old and one was a baby about six months old. It was in mid June in TEXAS!! Freaking hot Texas and the windows on that van were UP!! Not down, UP - we're talking NO ventilation for those kids! I tried to open the van to cool the kids off, but it was locked. I flagged down Wal-mart security (one was driving by on those little golf cart thingies) and he called the cops.

You should call the police when you see this. One of my friends did something like this but she could still see her children and someone called in her plates. She had a visit from the police at home. They said that it isn't the kidnapping posibility unless it's a baby. It's the safety of the child. They can climb in the front seat and dislodge the break or just get hurt climbing around in the car without a parent. He told her about one little boy who got tangled in the seatbelt. She felt BAD after that. She's actually a great mother and just thought it would be ok since she could still see them. But the police do follow up and if they suspect neglect they'll take it to child services!

makes me really sad that there are so many people just on this board with these stories. Ive never seen it myself, but sounds like its very common and thats terrible.

1. Yes the mom was in the video store and there was no way she could have kept and eye on the car.

2. I didn't say anything because really if your idodic enought to do that in the first place you're not going to listen to a complete stranger tell you how wrong it is and have a complete change of heart/adittude. All it would have done was piss her off and probably caused me to spike my blood pressure yelling at her too!!!!

3. Well luckily my Dh is the District Manager for that store and when I told him how long it was before she came out he went back in and looked up her account. He had one of his employees call the police and tell them she had already left but they had her name and driver's lincese number!!!!

So who knows if the police will follow up but the good thing is DH put a note on her account and when she comes to rent again the person checking her out will know to watch her and if she left the kids int he car again they will write down her plate number and call again!!!!

Yes we love them....my Dh actually works for them. He's a district manager for them and has about 9 total stores he's incharge of here in western PA!!!! So of course I'm gonna tell you to go ahead and check them out!!!! Hey...free movies are good right!?!?!! :D

OMG! I don't know how people can do such a thing! I won't even take my eyes off of the kids when they are playing out in our back yard in fear that someone will come and snatch them and to top it all off it is summer and I can imagine how stinking hot it could get in that car. :( But I totally agree with what you said here:

It's strange how different cultures can be - here people do that ALL the time, and noone thinks twice about it, unless it is hot, when you obviously don't do it (even though some people do:(). I've done it a couple of times, but I've only popped into the store for like 5 mins or so, and the kids have always been buckled in (and they know better than to get out), they are nearly 3 and 7. But I would never do it if I had parked on a hill, or if I was in a place other than near where I live.

Then again - my kids slept in their prams outside when they were little, where I couldn't see them, but I left the door was open so I could hear when they woke up, I guess you wouldn't do that either;) Everyone does that here. I don't always watch the kids when they are in the garden either, just leave the door and windows open, and check on them from time to time (the youngest is only allowed to go out without me if she is with her sister). I live in the countryside in Norway, and the people on my street all do these things.

I guess it's a culture thing though, my gran told me that when they moved to the US all the neighbours used to be really annoyed with the Norwegian kids who were allowed to run around unsupervised, even in the dark;)

Wow! My kids have never been allowed out of my site! My 7 yr old daughter isn't even allowed to go out front to ride her bike unless me or my hubby is watching her, and we live in an extremely quiet, family friendly neighborhood, at the end of a road, where all of our neighbors are teachers or principals at our school. I'm just too overprotected-my hubby watches the news way too much, so I am terrified to be not in viewing area of my kids.

I thought it was just a "local store" and didn't realize it was a chain (are they franchises or all owned by corporate?)...it is an interesting location that it showed up on...on a lot that a bowling alley was on and burned down when my son was in grade school (he is now 20!)...about time they built something there. Ok will find that coupon and take a trip into the store and check them out. Was kinda surprised to see a new video store in town since the "Red Box" seemed to become competition for Blockbuster and now Blockbuster has lowered their prices to $1 a night on many movies...

That is horrible!!! I've seen it done before too and I was so upset I just wanted to take the little boy home with me!!! It was about 100 degrees out and he was inside the car, with all the windows rolled up and out of his car seat. He was either 2 or 3 and was crying! He was scared to death...and I don't know how long he'd been there before I pulled up. I actually took the boy into the store and took him to the customer service desk and had them say a boy was found over the intercom. Finally the mom came up and didn't understand how he got in the store. Can you believe it, now the woman was irate with me for bringing him in the store!!! The workers called the cops and they actually took the kid from her because of the way she was yelling at me! Good though, she deserves it!! It's horrible how people can do that!
