Look at what Keira found in our backyard

I would think he'll have to mow, so just go over and quickly pick it up, have him mow, and you put it back down? I don't know what to tell you!

Mow around it. Part of why she has it there is because it's sort of hidden. It won't hurt to have a smallish patch that grows a little, will it?

I hope not, since I live on base they can be a pain. But, I'll let them know what the issue is.

How cute! Actually touching the nest and/or eggs is not what makes the mother not come back to take care of them it's the disturbances that do it. If a nest is located in an area where there is a lot of action going on then she may abandon them or attempt to move them to a new nest herself.

Can she move the eggs?

Maybe she'll do that.

I don't have to worry about snakes, too cold in Alaska for them.

She looks like a Dark-Eyed Junco and they build their nests on ground. I would say just go ahead and mow the lawn (of course around the nest) and then try to stay away from it as much as possible. I think incubation time for them is about 10 to 13 days and then another 10 or so to leave the nest.

Thanks Megan. We are offically out of our house June 4th, that's when we turn over the keys. I'll just make the housing office aware of it and hopefully everything will turn out ok.

What a cute little birdie. I hope the mama and the eggs will be alright. I have no idea what to do about that sorta thing

that is SO cute!! I'd suggest putting one of those circle tomato cages around it. Keep the kids from walking over it and such. But mama bird might not love that idea... so maybe not. LOL... I'm not very helpful!
this is what I mean-

That's a good idea Julie, since we actually move out of the house on Tuesday, the kids won't be out there, but I do have the movers to deal with. I feel sick at the thought of that bird losing her eggs.

I'd put some garden fencing around it, especially since you're having movers come. I'd hate to have someone step in the nest and crush the eggs :(
