Does anyone here use this service? www.logmein.com My BIL and sister were using it to use programs on their home computer through their laptop while we were camping - I'd never heard of it before. It sounds pretty cool, though...as long as you have high speed internet and the computer you are trying to connect to remotely is turned on, you can access anything on that computer. Neat-o! :)

I'm going to give it a try when I go to my parents - try and use PS from their computer, through mine...and use the files that are on my EHD's as well. Then, not have to back up to CD or pen drive to take my files home...I can just save them directly to my computer at home.

I just signed up for the free version, but I think to use it the way I want, I'll have to use Pro. But, it works for PC's AND Macs, though I don't know if you can move between them seamlessly (I'm hoping they do, because then I'll just get a MacBook like I originally wanted, and be able to access my EHD's from anywhere in my house, woot). And it looks like they've got backup services too?

Just curious if anyone has used it. And if you haven't heard of it, lol...check it out! :)
 
Have you used it yet Bree? I'm wondering about using it on my work computer so I can scrap there during the rare moments I don't have any work to do.
 
My husband uses it so he can access our home computers from his office at work. He seems to like it a lot.
 
No, I haven't used it yet...cause I only have one computer, hehehe. I have signed up though, just so I will have it ready to go when I'm at my parents in a few weeks. :)
 
Does anyone know exactly how it works? Do I need to know my IP from my computer so I can log on? I'm confused... :confused: But really interested in using it if it works... :)
 
You set up each computer you'll need to access and give it a password, so then when YOU log in, it'll show you the computers you've got attached to your account. Then you can select which computer you want to log into and type in the password and you're in. I'm pretty sure you don't need to know the IP address or anything...you just need to have the program installed on that computer and have it registered.

I've gone as far as registering my desktop computer with a password and I can see it on there.
 
Thanks Bree! Maybe I'll play around with it a bit this weekend... after I finish backing up the last 6 months worth of stuff on DVD.
 
I wonder if the computer you are remotely connected to SHOWS what you are doing. For Example:
I am at the office and remote connect to my home laptop ... can someone at home see what I am doing?

senario #2:
I am in my room on my laptop, can I connect to my son's desktop in his room to see what he is doing?
 
The computer guy that comes to my work to clean up the systems uses it. He said that he was actually concidering offering his clients who will let him use it on their systems a discount because he can do everything he needs to do from his office and saves him the fuel costs of traveling to each business.

I used it for the trial period and it was pretty cool. I was thinking about signing up for it. It was pretty cool.
 
We use it. LOVE IT! When we lived in town, dh would log in from school and write little messages to me in Word for me to see when I was stuck on the couch nursing ds. Kinda fun.

I'm going to make my mom sign up for it on their computer, so when she calls needing helping with copying files or sending an email, I can see EXACTLY what she's doing and help her. (Or so I can easily help my sis with her homework, instead of going through the scan-it-email-it-call-me-back routine.)

I think you'll like it. It's so super convenient. (Unless someone turns off the computer. I was going to access my desktop when we were out of town, but the power went out at home I guess, so my desktop shut off, and I couldn't get to it. Bummer.)

Yes, they can see what you're doing. For example, when my dh would access it from school, I could see the mouse pointer moving. Then Word would open and I'd see him typing. Then he'd increase the size of the font so I could actually read it. So, they can see what you're doing on their computer--they can't see your computer (unless they log into your computer--then they'd see your screen, but you wouldn't see theirs).

does it still work if your computer is on but in sleep mode?

so can retrieve files from the remote computer to put on your local computer? or do you have to work on remote files on the remote computer?

I know you can drag/drop files in the Pro version. Pretty sure it's not available in the free version. The clipboard is connected. Works well for text--we tried it. Totally stinks for pictures (unless you want some funky art effect). And you can't copy files. So I think it's a Pro-only feature (they've gotta make it worth buying, right?)

As far as we know, you can't work on your coomputer if it's in sleep mode. But there might be an option in the pro version that would let you, or give you the ability to "wake" the computer up.
