Let's talk teacher gifts...

What do you guys usually give the teachers in your life for Christmas? In the past, I've made gifts and/or given gift certificates. I definitely won't have time to make anything this year, so I thought I'd see about other creative ideas.

I realize that candles, lotions, coffee mugs, etc are all given way too often, so that's why I've done gift cards in the past. Is that too impersonal? I happen to LOVE getting gift cards, so I always think everyone else should too. LOL!

What do you think? What will you guys be giving?

I'm gonna make paint cans too this year, since Penny made it so easy with the templates....but I don't think a gift card is too impersonal...I'm sure they would really appreciate it.

Only gift I've given to my daughter's teacher was a box of chocolates and a scrapped Christmas card -- it was quite pretty actually, I had taken a pic of her with her pupils during my girl's bday and scrapped it for her.

I got some nice Christmas ornaments that were handmade (by someone else LOL) last year, and plan to do something similar this year. They were a huge hit!

We've done paint cans, gift sets as well as gift cards in the past. I don't think they're impersonal at all. Our teachers have always enjoyed them. Go for it!....and don't stress about it. I'm sure they'll enjoy just being remembered.

My sister is a teacher (kindergarten) and this is what she says... "please, no "teacher" crap. We don't need any more apple paper weights, ornaments, or broaches. What we really want is caffeine. Coffee. Starbucks. We spend the entire day with small children. We need coffee!!" (of course, she is a Starbucks snob). But seriously, a gift card for a coffee house will NEVER be unappreciated. :)

I'll give Sandra's teacher Kalhúa filled chocolates, woudl that be good for your sis? lol

My daughter is 3 and goes to a daycare center. There is one teacher in her room, along with several part-time aides. Because there are about 10 of them total, I only do a small Starbuck's gift card for each of them. I figure they can go and enjoy a drink or two on us, plus it's super-easy!

LOL Jenny, that is so funny and true! I teach 3rd grade, and I have to say that caffeine is always appreciated, whatever the form.

I plan to give Loryn's teacher a gift card to either Borders or the local movie theater. I bought the cutest $1 felt gift bags at Target last week, little ones that are the perfect size for cards. I will tie it with a pretty ribbon and a little "teacher" ornament I bought from Lenox.

I appreciate any gifts that come my way. After all, it's the thought that counts, right? However, I must add that there are some gifts I definitely have had my fill of from year to year...

mugs
candles
pins
candy
figurines
soaps, lotions, etc.

In the past I've given gift cards to bookstores. I figure even if the teacher doesn't use it on herself (which is what I hope she does!) then she could buy something for the classroom. My bookstore also has a coffeeshop in it, so the giftcard works there too. I love the idea of putting it on the paint can!! Although I've never done any hybrid before, so that will be exciting!!

Julie, bookstore gcs are also a good choice. My sister gets them a lot and she usually buys books for her classroom just because she really has an obsession with childrens books (we both do). And bonus that the coffee shop is in the bookstore. :)
