I just started moving mine to -45 and I like that a lot better, since I've done that, I've gotten a ton more comments on my LOs...I don't know why!

Opacity/spread/distance are all different each time, depending on the element, what it's layered on top of, etc.

That's the setting I've been using too.

My friend Flergs gave me some styles and that is what I use as my shadow are crappy... LOL

Shadows are the bane of my digital scrapping existence.

I wrestle on a daily basis with wanting to have 'real' shadows that everyone will think are so fantastic vs. having no desire to spend 10 minutes fiddling with each shadow on the page to get them to fantasticness.

Right now, my 'go to' shadow is usually -45 with 15-0-20 or 10-0-15.

I use Traci Murphy's actions and sometimes modify them if they don't seem just right - I also use Flergs' or Sarah Batdorf's from ScrapGirls from time to time.
