Let's talk: Composition and Design

I'm curious....

I'm not a planner for the most part. They just sort of happen.

Do you guys go into creating with an idea or LO in mind or do you let it happen?

Mostly I'm all over the board. Sometimes I may do a major reconstruction on a layout 2-3 times. I'm horribly indecisive :( I wish I had more of a vision when I started. That's probably why I'm so slow.

It just happens for me tooo .... I start most times with the background and than let myself inspire by the photo and the elements I have...

Usually I just start scrapping, no idea what the layout will look like in the end unless I'm scraplifting. Even then I usually go WAY off the course I'm trying to achieve.

if i'm scraplifting, yes i have an idea, lol. otherwise i just move things around til it 'clicks'. i hardly ever have a plan in my mind.

Nope...no plans at all. Well, I usually know what photo I want to scrap LOL! Hmmm...I wonder if having a plan would make my layouts better

I guess I'm the odd one out because I can't start unless I have an idea in mind. I always have at least a general idea about what I want to do, kind of a big picture idea I guess you could say. The design does evolve as I go along but for the most part the basic idea stays the same unless for some reason it's really not working. But I also design mostly using the shape tools and clipping masks so the bones of the layout are already in place before I start using anything from the kit. Maybe this is why it takes me so much longer than everyone else...:D

Oh and the pages where I attempt to just go with the flow without an idea, I usually end up hating. :D

I'm not a planner either... which is odd because I'm normally very organized, even creatively. But with scrapping, I stat with the photo, then the background and just work my way up.

i almost always fly by the seat of my pants. i have no idea what i am doing, what picture i am scrapping, nada. which is completely obvious since my pages are weird and look like they have a personality disorder.

I rarely have an actual plan in my head and often if I do, it changes anyway. I actually just play and play and play until it's visually pleasing to me.

I just take everything I *think* I want to use and plop it on the layout. Then I just go from there. No planning involved what so ever.

Lately I have been doing 3 tries before finally settling on a page I like. I hate working for an hour or more just to throw it out. But if it's not working after that much time, it's time to start over. Other times just seeing a kit brings a layout to mind. I love those moments! :)

No plan, I just plop things on as I go. I tried doing sketches before to save time, but it never turns out the way I planned so I quit doing that.

I usually have at least a basic plan in mind, and occasionally I'll do a sketch. It never looks exactly what I was invisioning, but I just keep working it until it looks "right".

I just place my picture on the layout and sort of go from there. I rarely ever have a clear idea on how I want the page to look.

I usually start with my pic and then go from there but that does not always work so I may do an entire layout and then pick a photo at the end so I guess I am all over the place...

sometimes when i'm inspired by something (like when i look through a magazine or billboards or pamphlets, etc) i sketch them up and plan my LOs... And also i also have had a few times when i put together a LO without a pic (so it's kinda like QP) then i fit a pic that matches the LO later on.

I almost always have a plan in mind when I start. Though the plan does change as I make decisions about what kit to use and the elements in it and then as the layout comes together I can see some of my plan isn't working so I change things around.

I have to have a plan to start. I never stick to it entirely but I need to have it as a starting point.

Which is why I love templates. :)

Im much like Lynnette on this one. I compose the layout first before getting the papers in, reason why I love templates :). I stick to what I "see" in my head too. Im at the point where Im pretty much satisified with how I work with stuff so Im faster. I really just want to get those stories down.

Which is also a bad thing because when Im all mojo-ed out, I dont even know where to start expressing my "art" LOL

I do this too, although 90% of the time I start with no inspiration at all (which may be obvious by my pages. lol)
