Let's talk about CS6

So, I need to upgrade from CS4. Who here is already using CS6? What are your favorite features? Are there any differences that you don't like? Does anyone know of a good list of features or a tutorial that walks through all the new stuff?

I am barely getting used to it. I still have to search for a few functions in different places and haven't played around with new functions much.

I made the jump from CS4 to CS6 and really haven't taken advantage of any new features really. I think it's a bit faster and I love that if you crash it will AUto Recover. Other than that I guess I'm just not into that much technical stuff!

I'm using it but really haven't invested any time into learning the new features yet. I mainly got it for the auto recovery feature...anything else is just a bonus for me.

hm this autorecovery like an autosave feature? I might upgrade just for that. I *knock on wood* rarely freeze up or crash but every once in awhile it happens and I get so mad when I lose what i'm working on.

Yeah, the auto save feature thingie is awesome. It runs much faster. It saves in the background, so you can keep working on a file while it saves.

Oooh good to know about the auto save, and I am really wanted to be able to use the puppet warp like the tutorial that Laura posted! I may have to upgrade too!

I have CS5 and use puppet warp a lot..it's probably my fave feature!

I hate to go from CS5 to 6 really wanted to skip an update version but man I might have to now

I like how we can choose to create a stroke around a shape we are creating, at the same time... and I like how we can choose colors for the shape easier now as well.

I also like being able to search inside the layers panel for a specific layer.

I really like being able to filter the layers too. I upgraded from CS3, so I'm not even sure which features are new for CS6. I love the Mini Bridge, but I know that was around in at least CS5 - not sure about CS4.

I was hoping to skip and wait to update till the next one too....I have CS5....but man you guys saying it is faster and the autosave makes me want it now too!

I'm still working with CS3. I know I need to upgrade soon, but I'm trying to decide if I want to start using my Mac (it's a Macbook Air, so not sure if it's got enough memory, RAM, etc) or stick with my PC. I don't like change, so I'm avoiding it as long as possible...not to mention the price. YIKES!

I upgraded from CS3 to CS6, and the speed alone made it worthwhile. I like the autosave and mini bridge, being able to change the label colors of multiple layers at once (something I use when adapting templates), and the darker interface (though I hated it for the first week or so). I'm sure there are some other new things I use, but they're not that important to me. I'm sure that as a designer you'd use more of the features that I've heard about but not really bothered with.

It's been a few months now so I could be remembering wrong, but I didn't have much of a learning curve. A few things had changed locations, but the features I use the most were still the same. The one thing I've struggled with a little has been sharpening filters. The ones in CS6 seem to be stronger than in CS3, so my purchased sharpening actions don't work as well and I haven't been able to replicate them well. I haven't invested time in reading tutorials or anything, but the little tinkering I've done has only been moderately successful.

As for a list of features, there was a good list (or was it a video?) linked in the thread about CS6 that we had going earlier this year, when people were trying the beta version.

I love mini bridge. It came out with CS5 first. However, I don't really use it anymore, since I couldn't get it set up the way I really wanted it. So now, I use full bridge and I made it take up about a quarter of the size of my monitor, which I have the space to do since Im on a 45". So I just click the bridge on my doc and up it comes in the exact location I want it, and I drag and drop from that.... so I use it just the same as mini bridge, but this works best for me. But even so, I love mini bridge.... without mini bridge we didn't have the capability to drag n drop right onto our layouts from Bridge... and I love this feature! Like love love love! LOL!

I noticed this with the sharpening too. I used to use the Unsharp Mask, but it seemed to strong after I switched to CS6. Now, I use High Pass Filter, and it works better for me.
