My ds got his laptop for his bday in June and he dropped it off the bunk bed. :cursing:

I took it to a local repair shop and they said they would get a new screen piece for 150 + the 99 fee for making sure it was ok and changing the screen out. It's ok just needs a new lcd screen.

He worked the whole summer w/his dad to replace it and he has enough if I order the lcd screen online. I've never had to do this if it were me I'd probably buy a new laptop but he want's to fix it because of sentimental reasons and the disappointment of telling his dad is just to much for him so he worked his butt off and now he's upset he doesn't have enough with the price they want to charge.

So I went online and want to order the replacement piece but not sure. The place will put it in the part if I take it to them I already confirmed it. Has anyone ever bought this online before?

Help please.

My hubby has done this - my parents had to get a replaced screen... I sent him and email at work asking if he had any advice... I think you just need to know the brand of your laptop and the size of screen...

DH fixed his mom's phone screen. He ordered one online, but one of the connector cables is considered "finicky" and when he took it to a repair place when the screen wasn't showing up (but it was working) the salesman said that the cables are pretty finicky, so he bought one from the repair shop (that came on a fried phone of the same model) and that one worked.

He found a youtube video with step-by-step instructions and followed them, carefully labeling the screws. If you take it in to be repaired, I'm sure they will be able to fix it. I might ask the repair man if he has a place that he would recommend buying them from.

Mary,

Replacing the LCD screen in your laptop is SUPER easy. The girls had two identical laptops here, one of them spilled water on the keyboard and the other accidentally sat on the open laptop that was buried under blankets crushing the LCD. Rather than losing both laptops, we took the LCD out of the one that had had water spilled in it and replaced it in the one with the broken screen so that at least they had a single laptop to share.

It took us literally 10 mins to do it ourselves. Order the replacement LCD and do it yourselves - its a piece of cake! You should find plenty of how-to videos on Youtube with specific instructions on what to do. Its basically unscrew a few screws, disconnect the screen from the connector, connect the new screen, rescrew a few more screws, done.

EASY!

Yes do it yourself!!! We have replaced quite a few laptop screens and they were all easy peasy!!! Just like Robin said...it was like 10 minutes!!!

This is all very good to know. Last summer I had to have my screen replaced, and I had HP do it for $300. I've replaced other parts before, but the screens used to be so expensive and difficult (we're talking 10 years ago) that I never looked into whether that had changed before I sent it to HP.

Thanks all so much, I was to scared to mess it up even more so i didn't want to chance it and repair myself and my ds was even more freaked out when I showed him a how to you tube video :( He said no mom, please don't do it!

I did more research and found the one I need plus I called the repair guy and asked him if it was the right one he said yes that it's the same model he was going to order but different company and way more money.

I will order later tonight and should get here by Weds. my ds is so anxious, he can't wait!

Thanks for all the input and suggestions ;)
