Kits that you dislike

It doesn't happen often but I have a couple of kits that I absolutely do not like. I got them with a bundle or free so that helps. I would be really unhappy if I'd paid for them. If that has ever happened to you, what do you do with them? I know we can't share kits that we use but what about kits that we will never use. Do you give them away or just delete them?
 
Delete. Even kits that you never use shouldn't be shared unless you have specific permission from the designer. :)
 
I dont have any kits I dislike really... but I do have some I feel I have outgrown that style maybe. I delete. But I am a huge deleter lol. I use a kit once ...maybe twice and then its gone. Templates only once. :thumbup:
 
I should add the kits in question aren't from SSD designers. I love all the kits I get here. I use my kits and templates multiple times. I like the challenge of it.
 
Lol I read this as "kids" and was intrigued

I have to through and delete! It's really hard for me to delete anything, but I have a lot of things I won't be using and it feels like clutter
 
The reason I shop here is because I am pretty much guaranteed to find kits I love. I don't buy them if I don't LOVE them!
 
I delete, too! Big time. If I can flip a template, or if it's simple enough that I can add things and make it look different, I'll keep and reuse. Kits it depends. There are certain designers I keep everything I love no matter how often I've used it. Most everything else, if it's a year old and I haven't so much as opened the folder, it's gone.
 
I don't delete templates since I can reuse them easily, but if I don't feel it with a kit, it's gone. I have no qualms about deleting, ever. No point in having something sitting there taunting me and giving me scrapper's guilt that I haven't used it.
 
I too have become a deleter. For years I hung on to everything and then when I scrapped I went through it all looking for just the right pieces. As you can imagine, I got very few pages done. Now I am a kit scrapper. I use everything that speaks to me from the kit, scrap more efficiently, and have layouts I like to show for it. But once I use a kit, I find I am ready to move on, so I will mark it used, wait long enough to ensure I'm not going to revisit it, and then let it go. That being said, I still keep some that I absolutely love forever!
 
Another deleter here too... I do keep the elements/papers I do like and put them into a "tool box" folder... :)
 
I don't know how you all do it with folders. I'd have to say having everything visible and sorted is the best thing about Craft Artist. Plus it's about 100 x's easier to use than any of the photo editing software I have and I have both Paintshop and PSE. If I had to use either of those to scrap with I just wouldn't do it. LOL

This is me.
 
I have recently started deleting more and more. It used to be I would delete only if I hated the entire kit. If I liked even one element or paper I'd keep it all. I felt like I had to. Now I take what I like and put it in a separate folder for random elements, papers or alphabets. I go through those periodically to make sure I still plan to, eventually, use what is in there.

yep this is me...even though I have been known to delet some templates that I just didn't feel I would use anymore LOL!
 
I use folders :) they are seperated by themes (Christmas, Halloween, AAM, boy, girl, family, everyday, etc)...plus my templates are seperated by # of photos....and I actually love it cause when I am working on something (if it isn't for a specific designer) then I just go to one of those folders and pick from there :) I also have a project life folder that has all of my templates and kits I like using for my PL pages :)
 
Oh... and I WISH we could give kits away, trade unused kits, etc. It obviously wouldn't work and I know all too well from the designer end how it feels for your kits to be shared illegally and all of that... It would just be so awesome if there were a way to take those unused kits and pass them along.

This is similar to my set-up now. I am still working on it. I do have kits for the ladies I CT for in separate folders but I could move them after I used them initially.
 
The digi-hoarder in me is very saddened by this thread! lol

I have lots of kits (I mean hundreds and hundreds) that I haven't used but I'm keeping sitting on my hard drive, just in case! lol :p I don't know if I'm actually sad to delete them, or just can't find the time to go through so many to decide which ones I'd get rid of. hahaha
 
This is what I mean about Craft Artist. You can choose an entire kit or scroll through all kits and select what you want. If you tag everything when you import it, you can search by tag. I'm not good about tagging.



 
I'm a deleter too... there is just so much awesome new stuff and there are very few kits that I use more than once... now, ask me about brushes, stamps and journaling cards... that's a whole other story lol

Sometimes i don't even download stuff that comes in a bundle if I know i don't like it. Like when I bought the Daily Digi a couple of months ago, I only downloaded the 2 kits I liked. It was HARD, but I try not to bring stuff I don't need or like into my home, and I'm trying to have the same policy about my scrap stash. The cleaner it is, the easier it is to scrap.

Yep, exactly this. I've even deleted kits I've purchased and never used but wasn't feeling anymore. Digital space may be cheap but I don't like digital clutter anymore than I like physical clutter.

I do this. I'm a member of the Daily Digi and I have a DST diamond account so I can get all the monthly kits from both places. I don't download if I know I won't use it.
 
I was listening to an episode of the Paperclipping Roundtable the other day, and one of the guests said she goes through her stash daily. She said even if she doesn't scrap that day, just being reminded of what goodness she has gets her creativity flowing. I think it's a great idea! I always feel inspired when I look through my stash!
 
If I don't like it, I delete it. If it was free in a bundle, there's a huge chance I never even downloaded it.
 
I used to be afraid to delete but not anymore. If I don't feel like I will use it, it has to go to make room for more. :) I have category folders for elements or papers I may want to keep before deleting.
 
Taggin' is your friend!

What I do is...

1. Totally outgrow the kit ---> DELETE
2. Not sure about the kit ---> Put in a "SPECIAL FOLDER", then next time I am deleting if I haven't used it then ----> yep you guessed it DELETE
 
I'm a deleter too. I even delete parts, so maybe I love a paper or an element, I'll keep those and trash the rest.
 
I try really hard to check out a kit and really search through the kit and contents to make sure it's something I'll like... I've learned a few things to look for when I shop, because in the past, I've been drawn in by a pretty preview and pretty CT layouts, and somehow ended up getting the kit and not liking it.
BEFORE I buy, I do the following:

--I look at the papers. If there is a separate preview for them, I spend extra time looking at it, and consider how many of the papers I will actually use. I'm a very paper-centric scrapper, so paper is the most important thing for me to consider in buying a kit.
--I look at my must-have items to see if they're in the kit, and if so, if they're what I like. If not, I consider the color scheme and think about whether or not anything else in my stash could supplement the kit where it's lacking "must-haves."
--I finally look at the CT layouts in the store. Are all of the CT members sticking to the SAME paper again and again, or the same handful of elements? If so, I really question how much of the rest of the kit is usable; to me, a good kit will have layouts that, considered together, use everything from the kit (not necessarily in one layout-- but like, if there are 5 CT layouts, I'd like to see most of the kit represented somewhere in the sum of all of those layouts).
--I carefully read to see how much of the kit is recolors vs. original elements, and look through the preview and description to see that I'm getting what I think I'm getting.

Since I started doing those things, I haven't purchased a kit that I've been disappointed in. (FWP? Yeah, I've had a few disappointments, but if I got something free and don't like it, I trash it).

When I have purchased kits that I don't like, I do my best to create at least one great layout before trashing it. I figure that, to do a page paper-style, it would likely cost what a kit would, so if I've used the kit once, I'm not losing money.

My goal is always to get at least 3-4 layouts out of every kit I buy, though, so I'm generally disappointed if I pay for a kit and can only get one layout out of it.
