Kids Movies...

We've been buying the kids a few movies lately...and I find myself listening to them as the kids are watching and giggling at some of the lines in them:

Horton Hears A Who:
"in MY world everyone is a pony, and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies"
"ASAP - whatever that means...probably 'act swiftly awesome pachyderm"

Kung-Fu Panda:
"there is no charge for awesomeness"

Ice Age 2:
"your breath smells like ants" (the first time I heard that I had to rewind and listen to it again...I thought it said a$$)
"if your the last one in your species, clap your hands"
"that puts the stink in extinct"

The list goes on and on...

Igor is HILARIOUS but slightly not right for kids, lol. It's so demented. But my kids ADORE it and are always repeating lines from it...yikes.

hahahah... I think so much of the writing in kids movies is for adults! My daughter who's 3.5 doesn't like movies. ANY of them. So sad! No princess movies, no disney or anything. Hopefully someday soon...

My 4 1/2 year old twin boys didn't like this movie. I didn't watch it, this was the report I got from DH: one was scared and the other just didn't seem to like.

They usually ask to rewatch a movie if they like it so it was obvious this one got 2 :thumbdown:s down.

My fav for funny lines is still Shrek...there are so many parts that are completely funny for adults that kids just don't get yet.

It's really dark humor...very adult oriented. The kids don't really "get" most of it...I'm not really sure why they even like it, personally. But it's funny to an adult.

Mason started repeating THIS line from the movie...

"if she's having woman problems...it's ALL yours"

He doesn't have a CLUE what it means, but he laughs so hard, I think because my DH laughed when he heard it.

Oh, totally... My kids are always saying the lines from the scene where they are using Pinocchio's nose to save them and they say this:

Shrek: Quick tell a lie!
Pinocchio: What should I say?
Donkey: Say something crazy... like you're wearing ladies underwear.
Pinocchio: Um, ok. I'm wearing ladies underwear.
Pinocchio: [silence]
Shrek: Are you?
Pinocchio: I most certainly am not.
Pinocchio: [nose extends] .
Donkey: It looks like you most certainly am are.
Pinocchio: I am not.
Pinocchio: [nose extends]
Puss-in-Boots: What Kind?
Gingerbread Man: IT'S A THONG!

My Dh is always saying that line from Kung Fu Panda, I am actually tired of hearing it. He thinks it is so funny I guess.

We just rented Alvin and the Chipmunks. I knew the kids had seen parts of it before, but not the whole thing. As soon as my dh showed them the movie, They started shaking their bottoms and saying something like "Chick a bow bow". We asked what they were doing and they said something about it being in the movie. Then we saw the part and it all made sense. I had wondered where they had gotten that from!

Oh man...my daughter did that too...she got it from the COMMERCIALS before it was even out on DVD! LOL! I could NOT figure out why she was doing it...

I think some of it is SO funny but some pushes the envelope too much for my liking...

Like the cat in the hat w/mike meyer..bad bad bad..a couple gems Jo got from that one:

"I'll cut you! And it'll look like an accident!"

"Holy SH(beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep)"

And my personal favorite:

(looking at a garden tool) "dirty ho! (I'm just kidding baby you know I love you)" Then he proceeds to start tongue kissing the garden tool.

*sigh*

oh my mistake, it's not holy sh(beeeeeeeeeeeeep)

it's son of a b(beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep)

yah, cuz that's better :p

That is just seriously bad writing. Cat In The Hat was an abomination. Terrible interpretation of the book, and just a flat out terrible movie.

The best kids movies and cartoons have writing that works on multiple levels, while not insulting or offending any of the age groups.

I'm always happy to watch kid shows that have the adult humor hidden in them. Makes it easier to sit through.

I really dislike it when they have adult jokes in kids movies cause kids love to repeat that kind of stuff.

Nicholas watches Play House Disney DVDs and the Cars movie. He's only 2 so his stuff is a lot better. He told me last night "Jojo's Daddy Snneeeze." lol Jojo's Circus. He always acts out tons and tons of scenes from Cars. The big wreck at the beginning, I Speed (Lighting McQueen..lol)'s tires blowing, chasing Mack, the tractor tipping scene, the running into the cones scene. The kid could probably act out the entire movie. lol

Y'all are fogetting one of the best ones: Madagascar (the first one).

"shitake mushrooms!"
"Hooover Dam!"

etc

Luckily my boys don't repeat many of the lines (DH and I try not to make a big deal out of the ones like the ones above). But so many "adult" things to get in the movie, the kids just don't get yet!

And not that they are movies, but this is also why I LOVE the Veggie Tale shows, they put some lines in there just for the adults, but kids can repeat and no harm done! I'll be so sad when they get too old!

awww, I love The Cat In The Hat...for older kids, that is. I quote this part all the time.

"You're not just wrong. You're stupid. And you're ugly. Just like your mum"

yeah, it's a mean mean movie. :p

Toys Story also has a lot of lines and scenes that are funny to adults but over my kids' heads. I'll definitely skip The Cat in the Hat--trust Jason to pick up those lines and repeat them over and over! And he's such a character that within a few days he'll have half his pre-K class saying them, too.

We're just starting to do movies here because my 5 year old is sooooo sensitive. He can't handle scary or sad scenes, which rules out 95% of movies. We tried to watch Curious George a year or so ago because he loved the tv show, and the movie was a colossal failure. He bawled through half of it and was traumatized for weeks over the Man in the Yellow Hat wanting to send Curious George away. We tried Toy Story 2 a few weeks ago since he loved the original, but he was upset about Woody not wanting to go back to Andy and refused to watch it more than once. (He tells me he didn't like it because the villian was too scary, but really? If even that was too much for him, he's going to be 30 before we let him see the Star Wars movies he wants to watch with DH!)

Snip 8<.....

There are some VeggieTales movies out...but alas (heavy sigh) my 13 and 14 year olds told me I am TOO OLD to watch them and they have personally banned the playing of VT movies in the house! I love the show where Madame Blueberry visits the Stuff Mart! ...I don't know whether it was the shows they oppose or mom singing...but alas! sigh!

My 13 and 14 yo ds quote M*A*S*H a lot...we've had a few discussions about what they said...and what it really means...boy did that stop the repeats of a few of those lines. lol Thankfully the boys DO care about what they say that might offend someone.

I miss my VeggieTales! ...but I can watch Princess Diaries! lol They said they would rather me watch PD than VT or MM (Mickey Mouse). lol
