Just a little update

My husband is home now. Actually he has been for a little over an hour or so. He is sleeping off and on. He does not want to move much and I am telling him he is going to have to very soon but just trying to let his medication start working first. Anything you can tell me about what to avoid (like food wise) and what might help the healing process for him would be great!! (in case you did not read my other post he had his gall bladder removed yesterday around 5:00). Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts as well! I was nervous about it yesterday and today was a pretty rough day for me as well but he is home now so I feel a little better.

I bet you feel so much better having him home. I don't have any advice for the healing process, but I will keep wishing you all the best and him a speedy recovery. :)

He's going to have to avoid fatty foods :( The hubs had his gallbladder out last year and we did trial and error for a lot of the food we ate. Some he could handle, while others he would get nauseated (he can't have fried dumplings or KFC gravy any more, for starters). Low-fat, low-sodium would be best. TONS of fruit and veggies.

Did he have a laparoscopy? I know the downtime for that is shorter. Hubs had traditional surgery so he needed about a week or two to be able to move comfortably.

He had it removed through laprascopy (I guess that is the right term)

For right now he is on a soft food diet and I knew he could not have much fat so I got lowfat milk, some soft fruit, applesauce, milk (1% .lowfat) and some stuff to put in it in case he does not want to eat and some soup.

Glad he is home now! Sleeping is good. And yeah...he'll have to move some. Definately make sure the meds have kicked in before he does. And moving can be real simple. I started with just walking down the hall in the house (you know, like to the bathroom!). Taking a shower can be a real workout too. I definately needed something to hang onto to feel stable. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery!

He just walked outside with me when I took the dogs out for the last time this evening. Umm what I kinda need in particular is there a good way for him to get up that is not going to be quite so painful. I hoenstly do not remember my c-sections being nearly this bad as he feels but then he has all that other pain as well so maybe it just is not relieving it as well.

Can he use a pillow to support the incision site when he gets up. The extra support may help. I know it did with my c-sections. I can imagine that all the pain he was experiencing before doesn't help.

Oh, and, hate to say it, but men just don't take pain as well as us ladies. ;) LOL I'm just teasing, of course. I can't imagine what he's going through. I've never had gallbladder issues.

When I had part of my colon removed, there was NO WAY I could even get out of bed by myself. It was like I was pinned there. Thankfully my mom was staying with me and could help me gingerly roll out of the bed. Laying down was the most difficult position to get up from. But, really, that didn't last too long.

Maybe try some different positions for him, or propping him up with a ton of pillows, or maybe just hanging out in the nice recliner.

Glad he is home with you now and that the surgery went well. I don't have any advice but I am glad he is going to be ok.

The recliner is a good idea for sleeping! We had Russ' folks here when I had my surgery - sleeping in the living room on the pull out couch or I could've done that.

For the next few days, easy food is going to be what he needs - he doesn't want to get full and heavy - just make them nutritionally dense - green smoothies, soups, lite foods that don't cause gas, etc.

And for what to eat after - most doctors are telling you to go about your business. You'll figure out what foods you can't eat anymore because your body will react. Know that if he has a diet that's super high in bad fats - his body may react, and he'll see what he can and can't have. But let me tell you - my indigestion has almost completely disappeared now, except for my big trigger foods - too much tomato product and taco bell LOL But I'm not popping Tums anymore like I was before!
