I've been meaning to tell you girls

We were able to hook my laptop up to a monitor ($10 for the monitor & $15 for the connector cable) and I've been using it for the past week. (Remember the water, the $2500 repair fee & all that drama?)

I even took a picture so I could show y'all my set up, but then last night the wheel kept spinning and spinning, and when I restarted it, I got the blue screen of death. {sob}

I've been googling it this morning, and it seems like maybe I can get it to work again, but I don't have a lot of hope. When I googled about the water spill, lots of people said theirs worked for a little while & then died. Something about unrepairable damage to the motherboard. : (

Anyway, if anyone knows what to do when you get the blue screen on a Mac, I'd be happy to hear your solutions!

I spilled vitamin water on my work computer. They had to replace the mother board, but the hard drive was fine. Hope you can get it fixed affordably... maybe wait until you're back in the states?

I'm sorry! That I'll-work-for-a-while tease is the worst. Just when you think things will be okay, you have to go through the loss all over again. I hope there's another reasonably priced solution.

so sorry kellie! it happened to me this week too :( i finally bit the bullet and bought a new computer yesterday. now i have to try and recover my info off my old HD - crossing my fingers that i can figure something out. i've ordered something from amazon (a USB/SATA adapter) that should allow me to plug my old HD into my new one via USB and get some info (i couldn't get the HD to fit into the new computer? )

good luck!!

ugh...i'm so sorry Kelly.

We're still a 3 family computer using 1 computer right now (the move seemed to kill two of our computers...bleh - my hard drive was fine though and everything is copied over to DH's computer).

Unfortunately new computers are way down on our list of priorities right now...thank goodness we all have smart phones are we'd be going through serious withdrawal.

Hopefully you're able to figure something out. Computers are so great when they work right but so frustrating when they don't.

Oh, Kellie! Bummer! I know nothing about Mac's, we are a PC family when it comes to computers, but I'm sure that blue screen can't possibly be good. :(

I hope you can manage to get your computer fixed soon!!!

You can try this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11043

but I'd put money on it being a hardware issue, rather than software, given water damage and your previous issues. Is there an Apple number you can call where you are? If they offer a mail-in repair service, it might be cheaper. I was a Mac Genius in an Apple Store in the States, and even water damaged laptops were not more expensive than buying a new computer! The phone support is different, but in North America and Europe, at least, they have mail-in repair options.

Thanks, Lorry! I wish that had worked, but it didn't at all. We were at the authorized Mac repair place, so I don't think I have a lot of other options around here. We're going back to the States in December, and my sil said there's a place near them that guarantees to fix your Mac for $300 or your money back, so maybe I"ll wait and take it there.

For now, though, I'm sharing my poor husband's computer & using my Kindle Fire to stay connected. Mostly, though, I've just spent a LOT less time on the computer, which I suppose isn't such a bad thing. Look at the silver lining, right?
