iTunes going DRM free

I think the $0.30 per song to upgrade is rather tacky. I have to pay to have them remove protection I didn't want in the first place? Makes me quite glad I only bought four CDs from them.

ITA. That is why I am not upgrading iTunes to 8.0 on my old iMac. I can still burn a disk and convert it to mp3 with the older version.

However, I am glad they will be offering music that is not protected, otherwise I would do all my music shopping at Amazon.

This will be SO nice so I won't have to try to remember which songs I've "tricked" iTunes into switching to mp3.

I had decided yesterday that I was going to buy my music from Amazon from now on. And then they announce this.
