ISO: tutorial to lift images from .pdf

Hi,

I hope I did an intro when joined, if not here's the short version. My name is Christine, I'm currently doing Traci's Hardcore Gratitude workshop and I did write a bit more about myself there.
My husband and I live with our 4 4-legged kids in the PacificNorthWest(love it!) but are originally from the Netherlands. Before moving to the USA we live for a couple of years in France. I love to scrap my French photos and stories(I'm really new to digi-scrap) but can not find many France related items other than the Eifel tower and Paris. France is so much more than just that. I love the Provence with all it's wildflowers and yummy foods.

Anyway, I found on Etsy cute flairs and papers with a Provence theme. In my newbie mode I was expecting these to be .jpg's and .png's. Not so. Was quite surprised when I downloaded them and they turned out to be all on a pdf. Lifting the papers from the pdf is something I can do but these flairs are tricky, they are round and not flat. The sides are warped. I use PSE 11 and tried on my own to lift them(there are about 60) but just one takes me at least 45 minutes and they still have jagged lines.

Can anyone point me to a great tutorial on how to quickly snap images from a pdf? I will reward/bore you with my Provence lay-outs. ;-)

Hi,

I use PSE 11. I do have an option when I open a pdf file to select images and import them. But strange thing is that sometimes I see obvious images, like the free Project Life cards from Becky Higgens, but PSE only sees 1 the tiny Higgens logo and no cards. I can than open it as a page but have the same problem that I will need to lift them of the page somehow. I tried many pdf's with a few it will work and give me the images but not with all. It especially has problems when there are more than 1 image on a page.

I do have that in some cases. But suppose you have 6 images on a transparant background, round or oval or a strange angles how to you get them off the page and save them as a single png?

Hi, Christine! Welcome to SSD!

Photoshop has a lasso tool and I think PSE has something similar. I can select something with the lasso tool, then cut it out and paste it into a new file. It works great for sheets of alphas, so I'd imagine it would work for what you're trying to do.

Maybe you could contact the person who you bought the product from and ask if you can get the images in separate files?

Hi Kate, it has indeed and I think that's the only way to get them off the pdf. I found the link to a tutorial at the Daily Digi, don't know if I can post that link here but it's easy to find on their site, it called Scrapping with pdf's. ;-)

They also use the lasso tool and do new layer with copy so the image is on a new layer.
You can than supposedly save the new layer as a new .png. I write supposedly because I was not successful. I can save it as a new png but than I end up with a large transparant file and a small png on it. If I crop it before saving, the layers underneath it although not visible will also crop. *sigh* I will learn this!! ;-) Thanks for your help!
