to be running a fever but have it not read on a thermometer? Reason Im asking is I am literally cooking on the outside but the thermometor read like 97.5 degrees. I feel like total crap and have a cough/sore throat and I feel like Im running a fever but Ive checked a few times today and it just keeps saying right around 98 degrees (its taken orally)
 
Actually, I think it is possible. My son always registered a "normal" temperature when he was sick as a dog and felt hot on the outside. A couple docs told us that can happen sometimes. I would go with how you feel and not pay as much attention to the thermometer. Just my 2 cents. Hope you feel better soon.

I am just waiting now for the cold medicine to start working that I took.

Funny story though...I took the cold medicine about half an hour ago and my husband comes over and says you know you took the nighttime medicine right? Im like ummmm yes...I say what do you think I should have taken? It is nighttime after all LOL.
 
this is so me! i can be sick as a dog and not have a temp... then no one thinks i'm really sick. but then i would be feeling fine and have a temp.
 
We were told by doctors and nurses when Mason got sick and we had to make sure didn't have fevers that taking your temperature via the mouth isn't very acurate, that the best way to take a temperature is with an ear thermometer.
 
I can feel my temps are not normal though...even my eyes feel hot. My husband says I feel like an oven. I dont think it is really serious but have been feeling like this for like three days now off and on. Part of it is allergies but Im also taking medicine which says if you start running a fever above 101 that you should call your dr.

I think if you have anything to eat or drink a 1/2 before you take your temp orally it can mess up your reading.

I hope you feel better soon! Hopefully it's just a cold and the feverish feeling is helping you fight it off!

That is so true. When I took my son to the doctor's office last week and they checked his temperature when they were taking him to the "check-up" room, it registered 98.7 or so but he had just had some iced tea. About 1/2 hour later, when they took it again, he was at 100.3 or so. He ran a fever for 7 days last week even with anti-biotics and Motrin. Hope you feel better soon!!
 
Yep it is!!! In the ED people will have a "normal" oral temp all the time but they still look sick so we take it rectaly (they love that :blink:) and they'll have soaring fevers.

thanks...Im kinda beginning to wonder if it isnt just the thermometer. It read my temp as 91.9 this morning and just a little while ago it read as 98.0 I know that drinks and food can effect the reading also but I would think it should still be picking up a fever. It was around 65 in here last night and I was still burning up. I had a fan on me and a cold washcloth on my head even. I hate being sick...(I know who doesnt? LOL)
 
Can you replace the battery in the thermometer? We had one that kept reading our temps around 90° until we changed the battery.
