Is 8 Too Early...

Is 8 too early to call a new mom in the hospital? :D

My SIL had her baby, 7 days late, after almost 54 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing, and having to have the vacuum used to get the baby out, lol. But, my new niece is FINALLY here! :D

Anyhow, she was born at almost 8pm last night...but I know my SIL was really tired because of being in labor for 2.5 days, she didn't get much sleep (when she did sleep, she would wake up to breathe through the contractions).

Would you think I can call her yet? LOL!

I'm just trying to remember what it was like when I was in the hospital. The nurses took my babies their first nights...Natalie was born at 12:09 am, lol...and I think I was up by 6 for the day...it's REALLY hard to sleep in the hospital. Unless they gave her a sleeping pill last night to try to catch up a bit. But maybe the hospital where she delivered was better and the maternity ward isn't filled with grumpy geriatrics who push their call buttons every time the baby disturbs them to complain that the baby is too loud. LOL!

when I was in the hospi with ce the nurses liked to wake me at the crack of dawn... lol so I would have been awake :D :D you could always call the desk

54 hours - good lord! she must be exhausted! you could call her and play it by ear. if she's out of it, make it short and let her rest.

I remember getting woken up all the time by the nurses to check the baby or on me. My 1st labor was 36 hours and *I* was exhausted. I cannot imagine what a 50+ hour would feel like, especially w/3 hours of pushing!

I would call the nurses' station and have them check or leave a message w/the nurses to have them give you a call when they can.

I think more and more babies are rooming-in. And there's always feedings every 2 hours or so. So...it's really hard to KNOW for sure a time she will be awake.

I hated (when I was back home) whenever I finally got baby down and *I* was trying to catch up on sleep at the same time...that it NEVER fails that somebody would try to call me. That and all the telemarketing phone calls around election time was what caused me to finally completely unhook my home phone lol.

I'd say have a note left for her. Let her (or her DH) call you guys when it's convenient for her.

I was a crabby new mom and didn't take calls until later that day (I had Benjamin at 2:41 am) LOL.

Perhaps call the nurses station and say you are thinking about her, but didn't want to disturb her. They could probably go peep and see if she's awake for you.
