Intro and Questions!!

Hey Everyone!
I am a bit nervous, but I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself, and dive headfirst into the Sweet Shoppe! My name is Alison. I have been checking out the Sweet Shoppe for about a month. I have bought a few kits and have a full wishlist. I was recommended to Sweet Shoppe by a friend that does digital scrapbooking. I am a WAHM to two (DD is 11, DS is 4), with a full house of pets.

I did one scrapbook (yikes!) Right after the wedding (13 years ago), and then life got in the way, and so did my job. I am new to digital scrapbooking, but I love the layouts that I see!! I am so amazed. So far I have downloaded the trial of Photoshop Elements 8. I have done two of the tutorials at Misty Cato’s site.. Thank you! And I am anxious to get going, but I do have a few questions. So if you don’t mind questions from a total newbie, I would really, really appreciate your responses.

1. Can I search for layouts that use a particular kit? I have bought kits, and haven’t done anything with them yet… and I love the kits, but need some inspiration.
2. Do you use your photographs or the papers as inspiration? (I am sure that sounds weird, but after seeing some of the fall kits, I want to go ahead and get pics of my kids so I can use them… am I nuts?)
3. IF you buy the template kits can you add something to them, like a larger journal area?
4. I read through the Potluck thread kinda quickly and realized I was way over my head!! What is a potluck?
5. How do ya’ll get those cute name plates at the bottom of your posts?
6. What does a CT do?
7. Are ya sick of my questions already?
8. How do you not go broke buying kits? I just love everything I see… I find myself trying to decide whether to get a new kit or one on sale… and then I see another… and well, can you tell I am overwhelmed?

I am sorry. I know ya’ll probably hate totally green newbies. I did read the FAQ section and checked out a lot of blogs… would you believe I used to teach Photoshop… back when wheels were square!! It is a totally different program now.

Hi, Alison - welcome to SSD! I'm glad you're jumping in with the questions!!

1. Can I search for layouts that use a particular kit?
Yes, just go to the gallery and click the search button, then type in the kit name. Or you can go straight to a designer's gallery, and if the kit is new, the layouts will be right in front. But the search is probably the easiest.

2. Do you use your photographs or the papers as inspiration? Mostly photos are my inspiration, but I've been known to go out a time or two and take pics to match a kit :)

3. IF you buy the template kits can you add something to them, like a larger journal area?
Sure you can! Templates are just the base, you can change them up however you'd like and add more photos, take away photos, add more journaling, less, journaling, more stuff, etc. It's just a kick start to get you going!


4. I read through the Potluck thread kinda quickly and realized I was way over my head!!
The potluck was an activity we did in September to get to know each other and have some fun. Hope you enjoyed reading it!

5. How do ya’ll get those cute name plates at the bottom of your posts?
Those are sigs and most are probably done by our members using products from SSD or elsewhere - think of them as mini-scrapbook pages!

6. What does a CT do?
In exchange for a kit or product, the CT helps a designer promote her business by producing layouts to show off the kit and promoting her in various ways through blogs or challenges or promotions at other websites. It's a great win-win for everyone!

7. Are ya sick of my questions already?
Not at all :)

8. How do you not go broke buying kits?
Do the challenges!! We have a challenge program that you can do to earn rewards points for discounts off product each month. Here's the link to the challenge info.

my biggest bit of wisdom is to keep at it, it gets easier! when i did my 1st lo, i wanted to throw photoshop out the window, i had NO clue about what layers were! ahahhah

I think I did get all my questions answered... Thank you so much for the welcome! I really appreciate it. I have spent part of the afternoon working on my 'cart'...lol

welcome to SSD!! Looks like you got all your ?'s answered. Feel free to ask away though. I have been scrapbooking for almost three years and still have things I have to ask about :-)
