Intervention on A&E

Did anyone else see this last night...with the girl who was addicted to inhalents? I have never heard of such...how did it not kill her as much as she was doing it? I was just amazed.
 
I watch Intervention all the time, but I didn't catch last night's episode. I'll try and watch it OnDemand later this week. That show always floors me. Addiction is so devastating.
 
Ohhh I missed that one...but its a common thing, we even had a boy die a few years ago in a town about 35 miles away. Huffers...thats why we had to put NO hoods up in our Dress Code...kids were doing it with their hoods up right in class...Sad.
I really like intervention, but it seems that most people don't follow through.
Which makes me sad.
 
That was crazy! My husband WILL NOT miss that show. I don't understand it, but he grew up in an environment where his mom was addicted to pain meds. It's sad.
 
I watched it last night. Unfortunately in our Native communites here in Newfoundland, inhalents are big problems. Much cheaper and easier to get than regular drugs. It will kill her eventually, if she doesn't stay sober.

ETA they banned all kinds of things from the schools around here, hairspray, liquid paper, etc. Last Spring they found kids in GRADE FIVE doing it.

I agree Shannon, they go get the help and are sober for a certain time but then they go back and do the same things all over again.

Did you gals see the one a few weeks ago where the guy who had a problem with alcohol (who I think refused help) died a few months after the taping of the show?

You know, I really think that they need to want to do it FOR themselves. I don't think it will work if they don't, or at least, it won't last. I think that some of the families just get to the end of their rope, and I can't say that I blame them to a certain point.
 
I watched this too, it was really sad. And when they showed her at the end I couldnt get over how BEAUTIFUL she was, you would have never known really how normal she could unless you caught that! This show really is soooooooo sad but I think that its an amazing opportunity for those that take it. Sometimes im dissapointed to hear that some have been thrown out for bad behavior and what not. It really is in most chances some peoples last chance. I saw the one about the alchoholic that died :( Awful!
 
Wow Traci! Thats terrible! I remember someone coming to our school when I was probably in middle school and talking to us about "huffing". I've never known anyone who's done it and its not a big problem around here at all, but I know it is in a lot of other areas because its cheap and so easily accessible.
 
Didn't see that one ( I usually catch the shows in reruns). Now I understand why what seem silly school dress codes and such are in place, e.g. no hoods, no hairspray,etc.
But huffing's been around a long time, it's very sad.

It has been around a long time. When I was in elementary school in the 70s sniffing model glue became quite a problem. I can still remember seeing one of the older kids staggering and laughing in that creepy so-not-funny way and the teachers rushing to grab her and take her inside.

It just breaks my heart that kids will do these kinds of things to themselves. I was quite the party animal in my youth, I'll readily admit, but it never NEVER even crossed my mind to try something like this.
 
another thing that is really dangerous now a days is like huffing but it's called puffing. Young kids are using the compressed air to get high.. it's really dangerous. I've even talked with my middle school age daughter and told her how dangerous all that stuff was..and that doing it ONCE can kill you! Makes me sad to have to tell her all these horrible things that are out there!

Yeah that's what this girl last night was doing...she was using up like 6-7 cans of the stuff you use to clean out electronics a day.
 
OMG I saw it too. I watch that show quite often. Having dealt with coping with the impacts of addiction in of addicted loved ones for some reason I'm so drawn to this show. And this was one of the most affecting ones I've ever seen. I think it was the combination of the backstory, the sheer volume of her intake, and that interaction with her sister.

It never ceases to amaze me (in a ohmygoodness kind of way) just how heartbreaking and difficult and terribly terribly devastating addiction can be. These shows always reminds me to freshly hold those dealing with and affected by addiction in my prayers.

And Traci hon, I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. :(
