Installing Actions in PSE 6

Help! I can't seem to install my actions in PSE 6! I got the trial version, and I want to get it fully up and running because DH says that he'll buy it for me if I like it (woot! Love that man!).

Anyways, I've looked online, found a tutorial, followed the directions about making the action file a PNG instead of a PSD, put it in the right folder, and nada. Nothing. My actions aren't there. I don't know how to do it! Please help! Thanks in advance!

Oh, and a question about brushes... how do I install those again? I had one them all installed in PSE3, and DH got them into 6, but then I couldn't use them properly. What happened is I only could stamp with a texture (looks like bubbles), not in a color I picked! How do I stop that??

Thanks Mimi! I'll try that and see how it goes...

Oh and yeah, I've restarted PSE6 already... it was yesterday that I tried installing them, and its been open & closed about 4 times, lol!

its a PITA installing actions in PSE 6. once you get the hang of it, its not so bad. you have to go and delete a metadata blah blah file to get the program to load up anything new you have put into it. the links the girlies gave you should help. good luck! other than the action difficulties i really like this program.

Okay, so after MUCH frustration and following the instructions EXACTLY, I got all frustrated and gave up. All the files were in the right spot, but even after restarting, nothing was there. Then I looked at my actions I have from Atomic Cupcake, and all of them are for PSE 3, 4, and 5. So I guess they aren't compatible with 6... so much for that then!

the AC actions that I tried in PSE6 worked for me.

did you try deleting that media database thing?

could the actions be there but you are not seeing them? if you don't make a corresponding XML file I think you have to make sure you view ALL actions in order to see them (well if I remember correctly).

PSE6 has a nice feature that lets you save your fave actions in a favorites pallette.

No, they aren't there at all. I've done Show All and there's nothing but the default.

BUT on one of the tutorials, someone mentioned deleting at .db3 file... so I've done that, and now Elements is building its effects or something like that when I opened the program... does that sound normal?

yup, that sounds normal! that's the media database thing I was talking about. hopefully that will have your actions show up!

Glad you got them to work! I run PSE 6.0 on a PC with Vista Ultimate, but if you want my cobbled together method of loading brushes, styles, custom shapes and actions, PM me and I'll send it to you.
