Inauguration...what time?

I'm probably the only person in the world that doesn't know what time it starts...but I want my students to see it! We just finished The Great Depression in Social Studies and I think it would be awesome to watch Obama's speech (we already watched Roosevelt's speech!)

LOL I didn't know until now either... DD really wants to watch it. I don't think she realizes that, for a 5 y/o, it's gonna be pret-ty boring. *shrug* Thanks for the info!

I don't usually watch them, but this is an historic moment that I find important.
He's going to be sworn in on Lincoln's inauguration Bible.

I assumed it was around noon, which means I'll miss it anyway. I'm sure the actual footage of Obama taking the oath will be everywhere immediately afterward.:)

I get DC channels where I live & I've been really enjoying watching the coverage of things getting ready. Personally I am more fascinated by the crowd control measures and hearing/reading live reports from the people in the crowds tomorrow.

Me too... I can't support the $150 MILLION it's costing to put on this show.

Finally someone who thinks that amount is just as insane as I do. If he REALLY cared about America, he'd donate a good portion of that to the deficit, better yet, the troops and their families who are sacrificing much to do what they do.

Is this the first time it's cost that much?

I didn't know what time it was either. I will be working at that time. Boo-hoo. Unless I'm still sick, that is. Stupid stomach bug. :(

Bush's was $42 million in 2005 and Clinton's was $33 million in 1993. Though Bush's total may not include the cost of security & the federal government. If those are added his total could be quite close to Obama's

While I agree that it is an insane amount of money, it doesn't appear to be money frivolously spent for the most part. Half of it is security & transportation just to deal with the sheer volume of people. Short of not actually having it in public (and even then I doubt that would stop people from showing up in DC) I'm not sure where they could cut costs. About $40 million of that $150 is donated by people as well. That money covers the train ride, the free concerts and many of the balls. It's not money Obama can divert elsewhere because it was donated for the inauguration & you can't legally use donated money for other purposes than it was donated for.

eee I can't wait!! It'll be nice seeing people pull together to support our new president, regardless of whether or not they voted for him.

Thanks for that link Stacey, it all depends on where you get your "facts",eh? They can spin ANYTHING! Ugh I hate the media!

Obama's inauguration is significantly more expensive because he needs a significantly higher amount of security to keep him safe. We can thank the bigots and hate-mongers for that.

Obama cares about this country.

Thanks for posting this...I just was thinking I needed to look it up for "my students" (I'm a homeschool teacher) to watch. I'm going to set up the DVR so we can rewind it and play again if needed for our notetaking. I had just finished downloading this REALLY cool curriculum for the inauguration...and it's FREE! you just need to register at their site!!

Here is a link to their inauguration curriculum and you can see a couple of them are free!

Seriously. Instead of spending all of that money on security, they should have a private ceremony with cameras so people can watch in the comfort of their own home if they wish. That money would be better spent on our TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT!!!!

And we don't need EVERY SINGLE CHANNEL covering it either. I'm already ticked off that it's interrupting my soap tomorrow...............

I'm sorry if I offended, but I seriously DISLIKE Obama! He talks a good talk, but that's all it is. I won't say anything else since it seems to upset people and BTW, I am NOT a hate monger or a racist. He could be purple for all I care, I just don't like, nor trust, the man.

Lets not turn what started out as a simple question into a fight of ethics. Regardless if you like Obama or not, he's our president for the next four years at least. This is a very historic inauguration for obvious reasons..it's exciting..even I wasn't an Obama follower in the beginning but he won me over. Look at this as work..you might not LIKE your boss but you have to work with him/her if you want a job so you suck it up until something better comes along. Does anybody have proof that he's all talk? Have you seen him in action and not living up to his word? Until then it's best to just have an open mind about it and let what happens, happen.

Not to throw the Christian card around, but I'm pretty faithful in my beliefs and I put my trust in a higher power. Evidently for me this is what He wants and I just have that faith that it's in the best interest. Everything happens for a reason and the big picture might not be clear yet..but it'll reveal itself one day...besides it's not very Christian like to hate...I'd choose my words carefully.

Fine. I won't say anything else and I changed my original word of hate to dislike. I won't mention anything else, it's just I get VERY heated when the word bigot comes out. Just because I don't like him does NOT mean that I am a bigot.

I don't hate Obama. I don't like him either. I'm looking forward to seeing if he actually follows through with some of what he said he wanted to do. I'm also looking forward to the election in 2012.

The problem that I have with the Inauguration ceremony is the amount of money WASTED on it. There is no need for it. Is frivolous and unnecessary and I would be saying the same thing if it was McCain or Huckabee or Romney or Clinton up there. They really need to take a step back and look at how much good that money could do rather that wasting it on a big party. I know it's tradition but it's getting more and more expensive every year and there are so many men, women and children starving and living on the streets and people losing their homes. Why can't they put that money towards something like that?

Paula, I love you dearie but no one has even said racist (which you then changed) in this conversation but you.

Obama cares about this country.

This was the only thing said that was even remotely close to that and she wasn't CALLING anyone that, just saying that Obama needs more protection due to ppl like that.

I understand that you dislike the man and that is ok. I dislike Bush and make no secret of that. We're all entitled to our opinions. There's no reason to get as inflamed as you are, some of us will watch the Inauguration tomorrow and you won't. That's cool, girlie!

I agree with you here. All I was saying is that Obama talks all this talk about getting the country out of debt and all this, and then all this money to party all night? It's ridiculous.

Except, he's not spending any more than Bush spent on his SECOND inauguration and a lot of the money he's spending was donated for this cause. Why can't the man have his night? Bush got his, Clinton got his, Bush Sr. Got his...and on back. He'll start getting us out of debt Wednesday :)

I'm not saying he can't. I'm just saying that someone along the line should step up and say enough! We need to stop wasting this money! Frivolous spending is one of the many reasons we have a trillion dollar debt. It has to stop somewhere!

And I really, really hope you are right Traci! We need to stop the madness!!!!
