Zak gets his learners permit today...How did this happen? I really don't understand how he is 15 already and I really don't understand how I am supposed to allow my baby to get behind the wheel of my car?
Honestly...I'm about ready to cry...I just went upstairs and looked at him sleeping in his bed and cried. Somehow this milestone is really hard for me to get my brain around.
OMG he is gonna wanna drive home from school today. Lord, give me strengh to deal with this. As a over controlling freak of a mom, the mere thougth of this is sending me into a deep depression.
Ugggg, I need you all to tell me to put on my big girl pants and face this like a grown up.
Just needing a bit of encouragement from my fellow sweeties.

Girl, I SO know what you mean. Where we live, you can get the permit at 14. Taylor just turned 14 this weekend, and he's ready to start studying for the test. *I* am not ready though. The whole thing freaks me out.

Good luck today, girl.

TY Libby!

TY Kellie, who just made me spit my coffee out. I directed her too this post and she was like, just look at the silliness of your post. I mean what LLAMA lets their kid drive?

Yea for real, I'm staying out of the way if there's a llama behind the wheel. 16 years old or not! LOLOL!!!

Driving is a huge step! Just set your ground rules beforehand and everything should work out ok :) (I got my permit at 16 but wasn't allowed to get my license until I had been driving for a year, and I think it was one of the best things my parents did.)

I hear you Shannon! I also have a teenager and is hard to let him grow up. I swear it breaks my heart to have him get older. I want him to be my baby forever!

Jacob just turned 16 and it is weird!! He got his permit a year ago at 15 and we've spent a year driving all around so he could learn. My son is actually a really good driver, but I'm not letting him get his licence yet because I can't afford the insurance!! It's an extra $100 a MONTH on my policy for him to be added. So, he is waiting a while to get his licence! It's killing him, but I'm actually glad to be keeping him my baby for a while more. I know all teens once they get their licence, their focus is everything outside of the home instead of inside the home. I'm not ready for that!

Sorry I can't cheer you up on this :( but just wanted to say, I'm totally in the same boat (or should I say car?) that you are. LOL

Oh, its going to be alright ladies. Really :) I had two go for their permits and licenses on the same day. Look at it like this....now when you just need something from the store...they can go get it for you. LOL {HUGS to the moms of teenagers!}

Put on your big girl pants and all that... then smile.
You will be able to send him to run your errands while you stay at home and play with the puter.

L M A O-Good 'ol Kelly there for the save!

And Libby----14!!!???? Huh? What are the governmanet officials in your neck of the woods SMOKIN"? lol ;)

I was granted a stay for 24 hours, one of the girls in his class forgot her glasses for the vision test so the teacher waited until today to take the results of thier tests to the DMV.
He was so sad at lunch, I tried to keep my short lived glee private.

HAAAAAAAAAAA! I got mine at 14. I seriously thought it was like that everywhere. No? LOL! They can't get their "real" license til 16, so that's 2 years of practice time. I'm good with that. :)

I got my learner's at 15 and license at 16. My dad made my bro, little sis, and I all learn how to drive a stick before we were allowed to get our DL

Here they have to be at least 15.5 then they can start Drivers Ed class and get a learner's permit.

I'm glad my girls are little.. don't want to worry about that for quite a while!

I so hear you on this one! My DS turned 16 a couple of weeks ago and can get his Learners Permit.(One year on his Learners and 100hrs driving before he can go for his P plates here). He is not good at learning new physical skills - took him ages to learn to ride a bike, and his first time on a motorised go kart he crashed into a tree! He was looking at cars for sale the other day but he hasn't taken the iniative to ask to get his Learners yet. Yay!!
Sometimes having a laid back teenager can be a blessing!

It's 14 in Alberta but I think 15 in the other provinces here...I got my learner's at 15 with Driver's Ed (you get it automatically through the school when you are in grade 10). You have to pass the Driver's Training (with practice time), have had your learner's for a year and be 16 before you can test for your driver's. I never got mine (passed driver's training, etc...just failed the dang test twice).

My kiddos are still little so I'm not panicking yet. Here, we have a graduated licence program, it's changed since I got mine, so I don't know all the ins and outs of it. I remember being a manager at McDonald's and having to write notes for some of the kids, because they worked past midnight and they weren't supposed to be driving after midnight, unless they were at work.

I like the idea of graduated licenses, I was ancient when I got mine, I was 18 ROFL

Well my situation is a little different. My oldest will be in JUNIOR HIGH next year! :(
I keep going over that thought in my head and thinking WTH!?
Where does the time go?
I'm too young to have a daughter in JR HIGH!!!!!!! lol

I will be right there with you shortly...my DD turns 15 in April and I actually can't wait for her to learn how to drive so she can run errands:thumbup: I have 3 other kids that all need to be in different places at different times and am hoping whe will be able to help me and DH with that! I figure as long as she will be able to drive, she won't mind picking up her little brothers and sister! But I might change my mind the closer it gets to the actual time she will be driving! So OK... put your big girl pants on and keep smiling!

Oh man, this is what I am dreading a year from now. I cannot picture my son behind the wheel of a car!!!! I hope it gets easier for you over time.

I don't have to think about it for a while yet, but I can imagine how scary that is. Did he drive today?? How was it??

Mine are little so I have no 'real' motherly support, but my stepdad always rode with his hand on the parking break ready for action when my sis and I were learning. It was actually kinda scary then, but funny now. He was always a little jumpy too (especially after I pulled out of the driveway and ran over the pedestrian crossing sign and almost into my neighbors yard my first time out). Good luck and hugs!
