I'm depressed...

I think that it is foolish to believe that having either party in complete controll is a good thing. It is not like we will wake up in January in a picture perfect world because Obama is president and the house majority is democrat. We will still be in a war. We will still be in a recession. We will not be a nation of zero unemployment. We will not be united. Because, fundamentally, we all want different things. And it is not possible to please everyone all the time.
So for the democrats who are thrilled to death, I am not going to your thread and blowing smoke up your behind. Don't belittle my feelings. It is not going to be one undivided country living in harmony come January. Poverty, maybe. Not Harmony.:glare:

Is there room for another person at the pity party????

But, this is America and change can come again in as little as two years (mid-term elections). Stand tall and keep on voting!

I'm with Ashleigh. I've felt let down the last couple of elections, so I can empathize. As for the gun issue some of you are so worried about, I really don't think that Obama will push on this issue - he's got much bigger issues to deal with than that (and I'm pro-gun rights).
And I agree with Darcy - McCain gave one of the classiest concession speeches I've ever heard. All of you who voted for McCain should be proud of the man he is and of yourselves for recognizing it. While I did not vote for him (although until a couple of weeks ago I was seriously considering it), I still respect him and I sincerely hope the two will work together to fix this country. It's too bad they couldn't have a co-presidency of the two. That gives me an idea....

Girls - it's all going to be ok. Today is no different for republicans than 4 years ago was for the dems....but you know what? Balance is good. It isn't good for one party to be in power for too long - back and forth is a good thing to a certain degree - neither party has all the answers. And just think about how historic this is in terms of race....young black men need positive role models, Barack Obama is a success story that will shine for them and that's wonderful. See the positive side - there is always a positive side! And finally - I really do think that our country needs to feel hope for the future. Consumer confidence is down....this will change that for a lot of people. Seriously - I truly believe it's all going to be ok.

(and just in case ya'll think I'm a huge liberal trying to talk you off the ledge, um noooo I'm not LOL - I am a conservative, although I didn't vote for McCain. Or Obama. I'm a third party girl  )

Wow. I don't see where anyone has belittled your feelings Heather, but I'm truly sorry if anyone did. We all have different opinions and see things differently, and that's ok.

I, for one don't think we'll have a utopia now that Barack is president, but he was the candidate that I believed could move this country forward.

The main thing now is to come together and support our president as the man who holds a position of respect in our country. Republican or Democrat, we are all Americans and we will make it through, regardless of who is president. :)

I have been against Obama durring this election... not really FOR McCain but definitely against Obama... I am a bit surprised at my reaction to the results. I have this subtle feeling of peace and I'm not sure where its coming from. lol Maybe because this whole thing is over?

I hope this isn't aimed at me. I really was not blowing smoke, I was not belittling, just trying to reach out. I understand your anger, I am empathetic. I guess that was lost, I apologize.

It is not Obama that I am afraid of. It is the total partisan control. It is Congress, Senate, and the Presidency. So, as Darcy pointed out, we can reappoint Congress in 2 years and maybe restore a tiny bit of balance to this heavily tipped scale.

i will continue to pray for the leaders of our nation. they sure need it, i could not imagine filling those shoes. and i hope your right reed. i hope we make it through! i pray to GOD we make it through!

And that's what will happen no doubt....in 2 years congress will swing the other way. I know it's intimidating to see one party in control of both but at least they only have 56 seats in the senate right? We'll panic when they hit 60. :) (I'm just trying to cheer you up - that was a joke)

Ugh, I can't stop crying... there is no doubt in my mind that we're going to lose our house and everything we've worked for because of him. Maybe it's PMS, I dunno... I'm just gonna go scrap my ass off.

the worst part I got out of bed running a fever feeling like I was gonna be sick any second and dragged myself up to the polling place to vote. Really didnt matter if I did or not. I knew it wouldnt.

I'm the same way... it's my therapy. Bed sounds awfully good too, though.

lol, yes, the bed is calling my name. Should have gone on to bed with the hubby. Now he will be asleep. (we did talk about BIL already though we did not decide anything tonight.) but I will most def be getting sleep right away. And I can't decide if I'm happy about that or not

lol

hey ladies. chin up!!! i demand it. we'll be ok, in the end this is all just temporary anyway, right? 60-75 years here vs. an eternity somewhere else. :) we will be ok...keep praying and being positive. maybe one day someone will get it right!! you never know. love you guys. now go to bed or scrap or post funny things in a new thread.

WE WILL BE OKAY

maybe obama will prove us all wrong...i'm praying for that miracle right now myself!! :)

HUGS!!!!!!!

Aww, ladies, it's ok! I'll copy/paste what I posted at the cloth diapering board I'm on:

Well, I'm obviously disappointed, but I did feel some hope listening to Obama's speech. I do believe he has the ability to pull us together if he'll follow through with it. I think it's an amazing testament to how far our nation has come in just 40 years that we have elected an African-American President, and for that I'm truly proud. I must say I was also disgusted by the crowd's reaction to McCain mentioning Obama's name (booing), while the Obama supporters cheered for McCain.

Anyway, I know most of you here are ecstatic. I do worry about the direction Obama wants to take us in many areas, but I'm certainly willing to not judge until I see him in action. He is our next President, and he certainly deserves the respect that position gives him unless and/or until he does something to change that.

Lizzy...you are so right! We can still make a difference by praying for our country's leaders...that they will do what's good and right for us. It's such a better use of our time than pouting.

i love you krystal, you have a way of lifting my spirits over and over again! i'm proud to call you my friend. :)

Lizzy, I love you. You reminded me of something that is very important to me.
Like my new siggy???

wub you too, heather! i appreciate your passion. i promise you!! HUGS!!!! love that reminder...i think i will make it my families motto!!

:( I kinda feel like I voted for nothing but all I can do now is have hope or Im moving outta here LOL

I am NOT happy with the outcome because if anyone was blowing smoke, it's the president elect. And now the dems have it all? ugh!! I am seriously scared to death the direction this country is going to move towards.

Obama talks a good talk - but the reason I didn't vote for him is because it's just talk. He makes it sound good, but it's BS.

On that note, all I can do now is pray for the new leaders of this country and hope that they can help this country heal.

Paula, my love,
It is apparent that you read my post ( and seriously? when did I become quotable?) And I agree with you wholeheartedly. But now it is time to read my siggy.
That is all.
