I'm an idiot

I decided to be digiesponsible and do my back-ups the other day...and in the midst of burning a disk, my HD froze up...and died. I back up my kits and photos frequently to the EHD, and burn them to disk here and there (should do that more often though).

Thankfully the majority of my photos and kits were backed up on my EHD. But for whatever reason, I hadn't backed up my layouts in months...plus my family tree (I THINK I have it on disk SOMEWHERE) with about 5,000+ people on it...lots of templates...a couple hundred hours of audio files...alot of clip art...and some documents that i really wanted to keep but didn't think to back up.

Kicking myself in the fanny...and reminding all of you to back up EVERYTHING!

Awww, I'm sorry that you're EHD quit! Mine is currently under the weather as well...I luckily had my photos and layouts backed up but not a SINGLE kit from the last 4.5 years. It's making scrapping kinda difficult, lmao. I'm still hoping that I can recover it...my BIL's are both computer geeks and can fix a lot of stuff, lol.

Don't give up on the EHD completely yet - it may still have some life in it...and if it DOES...back up ASAP! :)

Oh, I read that wrong...thought it was your EHD that quit. I had to do a full restore on my old computer and thought I'd backed up everything - I was quite upset to realize that there was a LOT of stuff that I'd missed. :( Mostly music and important documents - I lost all my emails and stuff because I was using Outlook. So I know how that goes! :(

Thankfully the EHD is is good working order...the internal HD is the one that croaked.

I've come to the decision that I will NEVER again buy an HP...I got this one as a birthday present from DH in Feb 2006, and 3 months and a day afterwards, the DVD drive died (one DAY after HP Geek Squad would have fixed it for nothing). Several months later, the printer croaked, and about a year after buying, the monitor died as well. Last month, we finally replaced the 2nd HP printer because it screwed up again. And the DVD disk drive has decided that it doesn't like to open...so I'm definitely done with HP.

I came to that decision 2 years ago LOL. We used to buy only HP stuff but were not impressed with their short lifespan. Our desktop is now an eMachine and I can't tell the difference.

(but if there was a really awesome deal on an HP I might reconsider ha ha)

I had an eMachine before my HP...and I loved it...it was just a dinosaur that had to be replaced. I've got a Dell laptop and DH just switched from an old Mac to a Dell, and we're both happy. Plus the Dell call center is about 5 minutes from our house...so in the event of a problem, I'll take the sucker down there if need be LOL.
