If you have an iPhone....

Is the 5 worth the extra money compared to the 4S?

I mainly use my phone for texting, e-mail, FB and some web surfing. Would like to take more pictures, but my current phone has a less than stellar camera...

Thoughts? We're sold on the iPhone, just debating the model...

I went with 4s mainly because there wasn't a huge difference and the camera on the 4s is better. 3G to 4G wasn't a big enough factor for me to dish out the extra money.

went with 4S here too...mainly bc the 5 wasn't out yet lol

I will say hold them both..I do not like the feel or shape of the 5 compared to the 4s...it's longer and more narrow

I have the 5. The cameras are similar, but the 5 has a better one (as that comparison linked above indicates). For example, at night, friends of mine who have the 4S take pics of the same things as I do, and their photos are not good. Mine are good. Then I have to send them mine. ;)

The 5 also has panoramic (although you can also get an app for that, I think), and you can get still shots from videos. That's one of the reasons I got the 5.

If you can afford it, go for the 5. It will be the "old" version in a few months. ;)

Also this is my first smart phone, so as far as size and feel, I only had a basic phone to compare it to. I do like how thin it is. I still carry it in my pocket 99% of the time.

I just got the 5 last weekend and I love it!!! Not exactly sure how it compares as we were able to get a fairly good deal on the 5, so we went for it without looking at anything else.

FYI the 4S has panoramic too you have to set it up but it will take panoramic shots :) It's not an app it's built into the IOS

I think the panoramic came with the OS upgrade that came out with the 5, so you can have it on the 4S as well. The 4S takes pretty good pictures with good light, and even decent-ish ones in low-light. The front cam is horrible though.

I got the 4S because we heard that they were doing away with the SIM cards on the 5, and DH wanted to put a prepaid plan in my 4S. I love it!

I LOVE my iPhone 5 (DH and I upgraded from the 4), but I tend to be an early adopter . . . especially when it comes to Apple products. :p

We got our 4S before the 5 was out, but I'm perfectly happy with my 4S. I can't complain about the photos as I like em. I use it tons for everything. :)

Dh and I have the 5 and our oldest has the 4 (which I think the only real difference from the 4s is Siri) and we don't notice much difference from ours to hers. I'm the opposite of the person that posted they liked the chunkiness of the 4S better....I hate how short and "boxy" my DD's phone is....mine is so sleek and I love it!!! :D

I'd say if you can afford the price tag on the 5 get the 5!!!

I have a 4S and Joel just got a 5. The 5 is a lot lighter and it's faster on the web. The only time I use Joel's instead of mine is when we're in South Bend where 3G is horrible to try to get on. Other than that mine is fine. And, yes, I have panoramic on my 4S, too.

Yeah... this ^^^^ I could have written the same thing... even to the fact that my 5 is my first smart phone, replacing a basic one... ;)

I have a 4S, Adam has a 5. If you're buying a brand new phone with a contract (as opposed to upgrading from a 4S to a 5), I'd definitely go with the 5. It's been out for awhile already and if it's a two-year contract like a lot of them require, the 4S would be pretty outdated by the time you're eligible to upgrade.

What Lynnette said. :p

I personally like the feel of the 5 (SO much lighter!) and the extra screen space, AND its camera is amazing in low-light situations. The processor is so much faster as well, nice if you're switching apps to want to close files, etc. The hubs has the 5 and I only have a 4, so obviously the differences are vast, lol.

ETA: I should add, again on the processor, that the 5 surfs the web faster. Hubs and I tried going to various sites at the same time on a epically slow internet and his would load pages so much faster.

Haha, yeah Adam upgraded to the 5 from my old 3GS so it was quite a difference for him. :D

The biggest difference is the 4s is only 3G, the 5 is 4G, faster on the web.

I think this might depend on the carrier you're with cause my brother, my DH and I all have the 4S with AT&T and our phones are 4G now but my mom has the 4S with Verizon and hers is only 3G.

We went with the 4S because the 5 wasn't out yet and we didn't want to wait any longer to upgrade, I think it was released 4-6 months later maybe? But we are very happy with the 4S but then I haven't really played with the 5 yet though my stepdad does have one and he loves his. We aren't due for upgrades til September so I'm sure they'll have the next one out by then!

I have a 4S and wouldn't switch to the 5, but if I had a 3 or 4, I definitely would. I still have 2 years left on mine so I guess I'll be getting the iPhone 7 when it comes out. LOL

I upgraded from the 4 to the 5 and I LOVE it! And like Lynette said- if you are going to have to sign a 2 year contract then the 4s will be really outdated by the time you can upgrade again. And I LOVE the lighter, slimmer feel to the iphone 5!

I got my 4S before 5 came out (when I could get it w/ Verizon) and have been totally happy. I'm actually due for an upgrade now, but am holding out until 6 releases, LOL.
