like this I am going to SCREAM! Ugh, marketing be damned...I hate all of the ungratefulness that we are teaching through these commercials that say things like "Come get what you REALLY wanted at our 60% off after Christmas sale!". The Old Navy one is the worst, IMO. If I didn't enjoy their great prices I'd totally boycott them. It's so offensive! "Didn't get what you want? Don't worry, it's not too late!" Just irks me.

I hear you! And that is why I also hate getting gift cards for the kids (from family) if we can help it. It really takes away the surprise and the gratefulness factor for my kids. Then add on top of it all the commercials and stuff. Sigh. Oh well, I need to get them started on their thank you notes!!

I saw that yesterday and kind of thought the same thing!! We don't need anyone else teaching our kids to become ungrateful!!

I dislike those commercials, too (but I do love a sale). It just seems like it's teaching our youth, "hey, you don't like what grandma gave you? That's ok, show her and go buy what you REALLY wanted!" I think what's missing is how you would make the other person feel if you did something like that. I know if someone was like, "Oh, I don't like this gift you gave me. Can I have the receipt to exchange it for something I want?" I would be really hurt.

This year we have been trying to teach the girls that you should be grateful for ANY GIFT you get, not only the ones you like or don't already have. We have started explaining to them that there are children with no toys, who don't have Christmas and that they are lucky to have what they have.
