I wish..

I still danced. ok yes yes.. this is stemming from Pasha dream land over here.. LOL. But I get like this everytime I see this stupid show :D I danced from 4-14.. ballet (go figure lol) point etc etc. I quit because well, I became a teenager and started having body confidence issues. I mean, I had a dancers body (well a 14 yr old one lol) I had no reason to feel all embarrassed.. but you know.. you start getting the boobs and the woman curves and that's not what my teacher "wanted" to see.. she'd always be telling us to pull in our chest (well not stick it out) and suck it in etc etc etc.. I seriously think dance played a MAJOR roll in my body image issues :D
Anyway.. blah blah blah.. I wish I never quit. I LOVE dance.. When I Was around 17 I wanted to get back into it again and my mom was all rarah you don't have a dancers body anymore dont' even bother  Pfft.. Maybe one day.

LMAO that was your random babble for the evening :D :D

Oh I hear ya!!! I danced from age 2 on. Ballet, tap, hip hop. LOOOVED it! I stopped taking classes at age 12 because there wasn't any classes offered in the area for over 12. So I helped teach the little ones and danced in "my time". I wanted to try out for the cheer squad in HS but didn't cause they were all so snobby! haha!!! I hope that Elly has my same passion for dance.

I wish I ever had a dancer's body :)

My daughter has one, but she never took any interest in dancing. Of course, now at 12, she is developing. It seemed like overnight (and I'm not kidding), she went from kids to juniors pants because she grew hips. She goes to a school with standardized dressing, so we bought a lot of khakis in girls size 12from the Gap when she started school. They seemed to fit her fine until one day last month, she walked into the room with the fly bulging. I really tried to help her understand that it was her hips changing shape and had nothing to do with getting fat...'cause she SO does not have a body fat issue.

And I'm checking in with her every couple of weeks to ask how her bras are fitting...trying to figure out when we need to go to the next size. What fun!

I do wish that I had kept up with the violin. I was always first or second chair until I moved to a new high school that didn't have an orchestra program, so I was on my own. I can pluck in tune, but my bowing just doesn't have the tone that it used to have.

lol I am so glad I have a son.. I would not be any help to a teenage girl starting to blossom :D :D

I was a musician too.. Another thing I quit-- that one I quit when I got pregnant with my kiddo though.. Sold my bass clarinet and cried a lil LOL. I can play most wind/brass instruments.. never completely mastered the strings though. Was just getting into t hat- I'm always fascinated by string players, they're so beautiful.

I dont have a bit of rhythm in my body but there are certain hobbys I left behind in the highschool yearsthat i grew up with and totally miss now. I can relate. I wish I had a dancers body.....Dream on sarah dream on lol!

i danced too. ages 5-14.
and i never had a dancer's body. like, ever. and my ankles were weak. so that contributed to my stopping.
-pats la- you could go back now, you know. they do have adult classes. at least, around me they do.

I've often wished I still played soccer.

Then tonight I did.

Right about now I'm wishing I never heard of soccer. :p

I feel 20 years older than I did this morning.

lmao I'd have a LOT and I mean a LOT of work getting my body in shape first before I ever dreamed of being able to go back to dancing lol.. I'd prolly have a similar reaction as angie did to soccer today LOL

lol I'm not sure I'd recommend just diving back in full force. :glare:

It was fun though! It's never too late to do stuff you want to do! I just started taking piano lessons last summer, too. I'm 37 and never played a day in my life!

You can do it!

LOL, I wish I had danced!! Always wanted too, never had the classes though, same with Piano! Some day I WILL own a piano and take lessons, it won't matter how old I am!! I was however a cheerleader in high school, LOVED it!! And was asked to try out with a proffesional team...turned it down though...mom though University was a better idea :glare: LOL

I used to dance, but never had a dancer's body. It was more like shake your booty and choreographed dance. LOL I loved gymnastics but I have chicken ankles and was too top heavy for it. Made me so mad I couldn't get past handsprings. I am weird. Never had muscle in my calves or the lower part of my arms. It was always thighs and shoulders. So none of the graceful stuff for me or I'd look like a fool. I stuck to cheerleading stunts. That was fun getting kicked in the head and breaking tailbones and such. :p

I danced jazz in high school. Then I dropped it for many years. Then at age 34 I decided to get back into jazz dance, so I went to an adult jazz class at a local dance studio. It was incredibly fun and I got to dance in a recital at a performing arts center. That same year I tried out for the San Diego Charger Girls and dropped out in the pre-trials because I just could not keep up with the fast choreography and dancing to Britney Spears songs with girls 10 years younger than me. BUT I'm glad I went and saw what it was like. It's NEVER too late to start or get back into something that you think you may enjoy!

i wish you still danced too. we should all follow through with our dreams no matter what! i really believe that!

I never even tried dancing. We did boys sports in my family... see La's other thread.
Although I wish I had never stopped playing the clarinet or flute. I LOVED bot h right along with drums but my junior high school teacher ruined it all for me when he flunked me for not going to parades (because I had other family obligations). I still love the music but can't remember how to play anymore. :(

Oooo, I've been thinking of taking classes at the rec program near home. I danced for 14 years, started with ballet but found my true calling in jazz and hip hop. I'm scared though, after watching So You Think You Can Dance, I can't see myself doing those moves without hurting myself! I think I'd need a day to nurse sore muscles!

Last time I took class was back in college. I don't have a dancer's boday, but it's the best exercise for me. I can't do cardio b/c of asthma. So here I am tinkering with the idea...sitting on my office chair all day, sipping on hi-cal Starbux mochas, and getting bigger.

La - if you go back to class, I'll take it too. That way I won't feel "alone" in my quest for a better bod. I already asked my friends here and no one has time. Can you believe that?!
