I just broke my brand new Nikon D60 that I got 3 weeks ago. AAAAAAaaaaah! I could slam myself if that would fix it!! :cursing: I took it to work after my lunch break, and the bag fell . Didn't seem to serious at that moment, the bag is supposed to be protective, so I didn't even bother having a look inside. At 5 pm I opened it and the lense was separated... Uhoh, not good. A tiny plastic bit in the lens' part that hold it together with the camera itself is broken. It's really tiny, but enough to ruin the whole thing: the lense don't stay in place anymore now. I feel like such an idiot!!! Anyone have a time machine to get me back to midday, please??? AAAAAAaaaaaaah (again)!!! :crying:

Awww sweetie I feel your pain as I was in this exact situation 2 days before Christmas!!! Big giant hugs!!!! Is it the plastic part that is broken from the lens or the camera?? If it's from the lens then you are really only out a lens not a camera....I really hope it's a part on the lens!!! More giant hugs!!!!! ((((((HUGS)))))))

Yeah, it's on the lense "only", but still 150€ (that I don't have right now) if I have to buy a new one. I'm so mad I even think about trying to glue that darn microscopic part of plastic on the lense. Since it's lost anyway, at least I will have tried everything!!

Ugh that really sucks Chloe! Is there any type of warranty that might cover it since it's only 3 weeks old?

Well, it looks like the warranty doesn't cover damages, only malfunctions... I will take it to a shop, though, but I don't have much hopes... I'm so mad at myself!!

Wait, so the part on the lens is broken? Or the part on the actual camera?
Is that the only lens you have?

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MINE CHLOE! Except it was DH that dropped my bag. Whatever you do, make sure that you have the body looked at to make sure there are no plastic remnants from the lens in the body. I didn't. I just bought a new lens ($90) and started using my camera again because it seemed to be working fine. 2 months later, the mirror in the body finally broke because of a loose piece of plastic from the long-gone lens was stuck inside it. I have been without my camera for 4 weeks now and probably won't get it back for another 2-4 weeks. Plus it is costing almost $300 to fix because I didn't buy an extended warranty.

{{{HUGS}}} though. I know that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach. :(

OMGosh, Kat, you scares the death out of me, now!! I will definitely have the camera looked at this weekend when I go to the shop!

Yep, it's a small piece on the plastic part of the lens that hold the lens and the camera together. And yes, it's the only lens I have.

Oh, no! I bought an extended warrenty on mine cause they said even if I drop it 3.99 years from now, it is replaced. I figured it was worth every penny when they told me that. Yeah, too bad my camera is stolen now.

That sucks!! At least it is just the lens and not the camera itself...even though that doesn't make it any better...Hugs!

We usually buy our electronic stuff at Best Buy and always purchase Accidental Handling insurance!! Our toddler got ahold of my last camera and dropped it....sent it off and it was fixed for free! You better believe we had it on the D40x and now on the D90.

Oh I soooooooooooo feel for you! You might still be able to get it repaired...but you'll have to be VERY patient for parts...I was told at Wolf Camera that repair parts are NOT made for cameras and that basically they make repairs from other lens that have broken. That was what I was told anyway. My lens has been in the shop since October 19th and they just determined they weren't going to be able to get parts for it.

I'm so glad that I bought the accident protection on my camera and 3 lens from Wolf Camera...I almost didn't buy it but since I stand on the end of the basketball court I have a basketball coming at me all the time...but what happened wasn't on the basketball court...my long lens fell off my camera from a 2nd floor balcony...Wolf Camera couldn't repair it so I am going to get a new lens! Ok that warranty just paid for itself! Speaking of which I need to call Wolf today to see if it has come in.

Aww darn it... I'm so sorry hon! I'm hoping it can be fixed for less than the cost of a new lense. UGH!

OH wait! Usually you have 30 days to purchase a warranty and accident protection right? Maybe you can do that and then get it fixed under the protection plan. Is that dishonest?

I don't care if it's dishonest, I'd do it if I could... but I've checked and the site where I bought the camera doesn't give that possibility. You have to buy the "broken/stolen" warranty with the product. I considered it and then thought "Well, I'm awkward, but I carry my job's camera everywhere since 2 1/2 years and I haven't broken it yet, so I should be able to do the same with that one"... YEAH, RIGHT!!!

I would contact Nikon Warrenty repair. I would not tell them you dropped it. i would say you took it out of the protective case and it was broken. If the lens just came out and there are no scratches, they should fix it.

I wish, but nope... I tried, though!! The guy in the official shop I went to this morning said that, as long as the problem is physical (and not a malfunction / software issue), it's considered that it's my fault and it's not covered.
