:cursing: My hard drive wont turn on! Of course I was still in the process of backing up everything that was on the one that wont turn on. Im so mad...its not even a year old and not turning on! ugh...it sounds like the hard drive is on and spinnig but the light wont turn on and its not showing up on my computer...any help would be great (I already started looking at recovery sites)
 
could it just be overheated (if it was on and just turned off)? Maybe dusty? Make sure it is all the way plugged in? Maybe it is something to do with the computer and not the hard drive...have you checked to see that the USB port or wherever you have it plugged in is still registering? I dont have a external drive so Im not exactly sure how they work or if any of these are even a possibility

ETA: I guess you didnt say it was external huh? LOL duh well ignore this if its not...and on that niote since I am adding words which are not there Im off to bed :-)

Well I had problems with it turning off a couple of days ago...like it was frozen so I had to just unplug it :( You can hear it spinning but is not coming on so i can access the files. I tried it on 2 computers...I emailed the company (WD) to see if they had any suggestions...I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and has come out on top with no loss :)
 
oh this is terrrible! (thanks for the reminder to back up though!) I hope you can get it to come on at least long enough to finish your backup. I read something crazy somewhere about putting it in the freezer for awhile? Crossing fingers for you!
 
I hope someone has some advice for you and you can get it working again long enought to backup! I think a data recovery place may be able to get the files off it even if you can't.
