I need to become a ruthless deleter

My little EHD with it's paltry 160 GB of space is getting full . . . I see no point in getting a bigger EHD. I don't need gigs and gigs of scrap stuff . . .

I'm trying to talk myself into just deleting things. I was going to burn a backup DVD of stuff I delete for JIC. But what for? Every week I acquire new stuff. And why bother expending the energy to burn disks that I will probably never ever look at.

What is wrong with me? What makes me hang on to stuff I'll probably never use?

must delete must delete must delete must delete

Me too. I have SO much, and I'm sure I'll have a cartful here tomorrow, I have a cartful going at FPD right now too LOL. I just need to scrap with all the stuff I do have or delete, delete, delete!

I delete almost daily!
Honestly, if I haven't used it within a few months of buying...then I never will, so I say goodbye to lotsss of stuff.
I have even deleted entire stores within the last month, it hurt a little bit, because I realize how much money I spent on the stuff, but at the same time, It felt good to just get it off my computer.
You can do it Meems!

I never delete ANYTHING!!!! Everything is on my EHD and burned to CD's/DVD's multiple times. Don't ask me why. Probably the same reason I can't get rid of my scrap magazines from years past...

I ADMIT IT, I AM A PACKRAT...

See, I just couldn't do that LOL! You are brave!

Oh me too! I'm exactly one month into my Mozy initial backup and it's still not done! I have a 250gb EHD and I have like 52gb of free space so I obviously have way too much stuff! Of course that includes all my photos, videos, layouts and scrap stuff! That doesn't even include all the stuff that its backing up that is on the laptop. I've mostly been running it at night though cause otherwise it makes the laptop too slow but I definitely need to purge some more stuff and stop adding so much too it lol!

oh my, you are my deleting idol. I have stuff I haven't used since I got them, uh, years ago . . .

OK, I won't delete scrap stuff, unless I don't like it (i.e., I got a kit and there's one element or paper that I just can't stand and know I will never use). I've put some older freebies (at least the ones I could see me using one day) on a CD in case and they're loaded on another computer I don't use often. Now photos are a different story. My husband can take loads and loads of pictures (i.e. over 700 in 2 days recently), so after I've used most of the photos and they've been on there for more than 2 months, they get saved to a CD/DVD, labeled for the time frame, and then deleted off the hard drive.
I know eventually I will have to delete, but I figure I'll be okay for a while with my current method...

Good luck with the purging....

I do a big purging when I get the urge.... LOL I have deleted kits I know I'll never use. You can do it Mimi!!!

I am my own worst enemy . . . I look at something . . . think about deleting it . . . and then somehow talk myself into believing that I could use it . . .

hmm . . . having a lightbulb moment . . . I have lots of things I *could* use . . . but *will* i?

That's the thing,Mimi - will you!?

Set up a criteria for yourself. Force yourself to pick things you've not used before and have been sitting there for awhile. If you will not use it on the next three layouts you do, you won't use it, so delete it.

You know I have done the same thing - I have too many kits - And I have all of the awful ones that were free that I will Never use!!! I am just so cheap that I have the hardest time getting rid of things!!!! I have become ruthless lately and told myself for every 4 kits that I get rid of, I get a new kit -

Mimi, what I do sometimes.. maybe this will help. Pick out all the things you're considering deleting. Put them in one folder. Let that folder sit there for 5 days. If you haven't used anything out of it in 5 days, delete the whole folder.

the next 3 layouts . . . . . . oh that is way too hardcore for me . . .

I deleted a bunch o'stuff today . . . my goal is to do a gig's worth today.

the funny thing is that a lot of the stuff I deleted is stuff I had never even seen  apparently I unzip stuff and then never look at it again . . .

I'm a deleting fool myself..since I RARELY scrap outside of SSD I have made myself delete lots lately. That said..I'm still way too full on my EHD and need to purge a lot more haha

I am deleting things every day.. I just dont have the room to have like 10,000 patterned papers that I will never use. Sometimes I think twice about deleting things but most of the time it goes.

I could never do that. I would feel so wasteful

But, again I just started about six months ago. Maybe when I am where you girls are I might have to purge... but I have a 320 GB and I burn all my pictures and layouts... so all that is on it is scrap stuff.... my husband would kill me if I bought enough stuff to fill that puppy :p

woo hoo, I have exceeded my goal for today to delete 1 gb of scrap stuff!

DS was making helpful comments like . . . "you know, you can never get that back if you delete it . . . " :p

Mimi- I'm so with you....I'm a digi hoarder of the worst kind. I keep intending to actually organize my supplies with ACDSee, but I never have the time. I delete things that are absolutely no longer my style but I have the hardest time looking at a kit and just deleting things I don't think I'll use- I can't bear to split it up!! LOL :) Silly, I know.

dang, Priscillia 3gb!? I thought I was doing well with 1 . . .

Teresa, I totally understand about not wanting to split up kits. I keep thinking one day I'll look at a preview and go, "hey, where is that button, paper, guitar pick?"

Inspired by Priscilla, I have deleted one more gig of stuff!

And now I can unzip the stuff I bought yesterday and today :p

I know for sure I don't like certain paper patterns (won't say what, just to spare feelings) so i delete those --- and I only need so much pink -- I have 1.5 boys. . . I keep some pink if I really love it - but I don't need 20 pink flowers. :p

and how many staples do you really need?!

When I got ACDSee last year I went on a big purge & deleted about 35GBs of stuff. I didn't want to tag it because I didn't like it or would never use it & I figured if it isn't worth my time to tag, it doesn't need to be on my computer.

I used to be a pack rat but I got over it when the kids were born. There just is not enough space in this house for me to horde stuff. :) I purge my closet 4 times a year & I purge my HD every other month. I have a system where I check the dates on everything & if 4 months have gone by without my using it, I move it into the 'use it or lose it' folder. If I haven't used them in 2 more months, they go. I'll pull out individual pieces from kits that I think I will use, like creative stitching or certain ties & folded ribbons, but the rest of it gets dumped.
