I need sympathy

I posted this in the homeschool chatter thread but I'm putting it here too so more people will see it and feel sorry for me.

Eden had an eye exam today. She's 12 but it was her first time (I know, I know.) Her and I both do this thing where if our brain decides the situation isn't safe we pass out. I usually only happens to me when I see blood, but I was having laser hair removal once and it happened. So anyway, she had her eyes dilated and after the technician left she says, "Oh no. I think I'm going to pass out."

Yep. She was right.

She passed out and had a seizure. The door was closed so I couldn't holler for anyone to help me so I had to try to keep her propped up and not flop out of the exam chair. I don't know if any of you have kids that have seizures but... IT'S HORRIBLE. When she came to she got sick to her stomach and I was JUST able to lug her over to the sink before she threw up. And she had just eaten lunch, so...
(I just looked through all the smilies list and there is no 'puke' face)

At least we had a good school day or I would be having a Calgon moment :D

Oh how scary! I am sorry you both had to go through all of that. I hope she is okay now. I would totally send you a brownie if I could! ((hugs))

Oh my gosh...that is so scary!! I have some brownies at my house if you wanna come over? It's a nice day here in Cali. :) ((HUGS))

Awww, I feel for you! I had seizures as a kid but outgrew them by the time I was about 17 thankfully. Situations like that didn't set them off though. And I'd be upset about the last brownie too!

 I am so torn between nausea and intense need for a brownie.

I have very, very deep sympathy for you! What a crazy thing to happen!!

Yikes! That sounds miserable and stressful. My son had seizures when he was younger and it is terrifying even if you know they are "safe"!

The fainting and the seizures seem like two different things, has she had seizures before? That would scare the crap out of me, did you need to take her in to the doctor? I hope she's doing better now! Yikes!

oh no :( What a scary thing. Hope the next exam will be a lot less eventful.

Wish I could send you a brownie, you sure deserve it!

That is NOT a good day! Is she okay now?? My oldest had a seizure once when she was a baby and it was literally the scariest thing ever!

Thanks all :) I think brownies are going to materialize at some point today :D

IKR? I haaaaaaaaate it! Then it's hard to get out of your head and you keep replaying it over and over for days.

They are actually related and I've taken her to the dr. and she's had every test you can imagine. She actually had her first seizure when she was about 10 hours old which landed us in the NICU for 4 days. They never figured out specific cause. It ONLY happens when she passes out. One dr. did say that it is totally in her brain, that her brain basically says, "Don't like this, don't like this, shutting down."

Yes, she's fine. Went home and took a nap and woke up fine.

Wow. That sounds like a rough day. And you definitely NEED a brownie.

FYI: If she doesn't "need" dilation, there are some eye doctors that have a big machine that scans the eyeball and takes pictures of it without the need for dilation. Sending you a PM.

You are an awesome Mom Val!!! When I read your story I see how strong of a woman you are. So glad you were there for her. Enjoy your Calgon moment!

I had one of these screenings done with the machine. It was totally worth the extra money. I hope someday those machines replace the miserable dilation.

So this is weird. I was talking to a friend last night about this and she reminded me of a girl at church who was sick her entire life with something similar. Her's ended up being some kind of vein controls this stuff that was basically wired in a bad place, so it was easily triggered or constricted. She is a young adult now and a dr. basically experimented and had her wisdom teeth extracted and it totally resolved the issue.

!!!!!

I'm going to talk to her on Sunday and find out some more about this.

oh no!! I'm so sorry she had that experience, especially in the eye doctor's office!!! I hope she's doing better now and she can put that situation behind her!! Hopefully the dr doesn't do another dilation test ever in her future since it doesn't agree with her!
