I need rodent help again...

So, many of you may remember my mouse problem in my house... Well, we decided to go with the good ol' fashioned snap traps. First night, we set out 2 and got 2 mice... a few nights later we got 2 more. Then we thought we got them all because we stopped catching mice and we didn't hear any anymore. Well, last week I heard one crawling around under the oven again so I started setting out traps. We set out ALL 4 traps and even moved them around... and the mouse managed to avoid all of them for several days. So yesterday I decided to try sticky traps... I set out all 4 and also set out the snap traps again. In the middle of the night, I heard a snap trap go off so I went to check on it. Turns out the mouse got stuck in the sticky trap and was trying to escape and set off the trap next to it in the process. I went and told hubby it was stuck because I wanted him to get it out... but he refused to get out of bed. :thumbdown: I'm way too chicken to go pick up that trap with a live mouse on it. Soooooo.... I went back to bed and could just hear the little mouse struggling for a really long time.

I woke up this morning... and the mouse managed to escape the sticky trap. Gah.

I tried poison bait too, but it isn't biting at that either.

This mouse refuses to die... I need help. Time to bring out the big guns. Any advice on this? :D
 
Oh my gosh, I've never heard of them getting out of the sticky trap, unless he wasn't very stuck :( Yikes, I don't have any advice for you, but good luck catching him!
 
we had a mouse problem a few years ago too. The big mice can get out of the sticky traps and the little ones can avoid getting trapped by the spring ones. Poison worked in the end for us. When one gets caught in the sticky traps though, you have to get rid of him right away so he can't just keep struggling and get out of it. Use tongs to pick up the trap and dump it into a tin can to get rid of him, hubby can dispose of the tin can in the morning ;-) Then you can just sanitize the tongs when done with them.

Ewww...*shudder* I hate mice. Every winter we get mice in our garage and at least one inevitably ends up in the house and it freaks me the hell out. We've tried the glue and snap traps as well, but the best thing that worked for us was poison (DeCON). Of course, you can use it if you have pets and you obviously need to be careful of the children. But it works really well and we rarely have mice any more as long as we put the DeCON out as soon as the weather starts getting cold.
 
aww I couldnt use those sticky traps. I would feel bad that the mouse had to suffer before it died. I have a solution for them here though we have five cats that kill just about anything they find!!
 
d-Con actually has these newer traps that work pretty good, No View, No Touch. And the good thing is you don't have to touch around the mouse. The way they work is you put bait in this trap door area... and they go inside of the thing and it closes. It works pretty good with any size mouse. You can check them out here:

If it were my DH, he wouldn't be getting any dinner or sleep until he fixed it :)

Until you figure out how/where they are getting in and fix that, you will likely continue to have a problem.

Also, mice like to run along the walls, make sure your traps are placed up against the wall if they are avoiding them.
 
I do not know why glue traps need to be used. A snap trap is so much better.

Where do you think hantavirus comes from? A mouse stuck on a glue trap will urinate and excrete faeces all over it, because that's what animals do when they are frightened.

Should I mention the part about torn off skin, broken/chewed off limbs?

I can't even believe there are people out there who'd just throw them into the garbage bin, still alive, on these glue traps. So mpatry, are you suggesting that starving the mouse to death is appropriate? Haven't you ever heard of a mercy kill before? If you don't kill it, it may escape, or it will take a day or two before it starves to death. So yeah, the suffering aspect is there and it does NOT need to happen.

Yes, mice can be pests, yes we should remove them - but why with all the suffering involved? You don't need to viciously torture them to death. Just use a snap trap and it will be quick. People shouldn't overlook the fact that they are still animals that can feel pain, and that when killing them, it should be done quickly and humanely. Like I'd do with every single animal I have to kill.

Otherwise, it's just being cruel for no reason at all.

Glue traps use industrial strength super glue, though sometimes it does not work. They are rendered ineffective by temperature changes and dust.

Remember that mice are very delicate animals, if they get caught they will pull hard... and what do you think happens there?

I don't believe in glue traps at all. They are unnecessarily inhumane, unsanitary and aren't any more effective than other traps on the market. I think they should be banned to be honest, because all they seem to do is either catch only limbs or starve them to death because people leave them struggling. It is horrid torture. If people are going to kill mice, fine, but it shouldn't be done tortuously. People just might say it's "only a mouse" but a mouse can feel pain like every single mammal can.

So, I advocate quick kill traps.

Good trap for those with pets/children. The trap has a snapping mechanism inside, and since it contained, there's really no mess. Cheap as hell too.
