Darik and I just signed up for NetFlix...we're trying to have at least one movie night a week...and I am SOOO out of the know with what the new good movies are. Couldya help me out? The only two movies we've gotten so far are Iron Man and Inside Man. I'm open to all suggestions!:)

I watch WAY too many movies! Ok SKIP Revolutionary Road and Doubt- I love movies and these were a waste of time.

Movies I liked that are newer releases: Gran Torino, Benjamin Button (weird premise but good message), Defiance (but its a bit long)... let me think...what else is new...

Really? I am waiting to get those.

I second New in Town, saw this the other night and thought it was hilarious. Made DH watch it too and he enjoyed it!
Also, 7 pounds is out. I heard great things about that. Gran Tourino is very good. I saw that in the movie theater.

Yeah... I'm a huge movie buff, and was bored to death. I usually like the Oscar picks and "different" films, but this didn't do it for me in either category. But maybe it'll surprise you.

*not to hijack but I'm wondering* Do you feel NetFlix is a good deal vs getting a movie from a Redbox or renting from Blockbuster, etc? I haven't looked into it too much, but DH and I have been wanting to do something like this too Laura. Tell me about about the cost.

.

Netflix is a fantastic deal espeically for people, like me, who watch a ton of movie. Benjamin Button and Defiance were both really good. I have been waiting on Grand Tarino for a while.

I agree to New In Town... DH and I laughed our butts off because the winter scenes are SO true. It was filmed in Canada, and yes - our winters REALLY are that cold, desolate and miserable!

Hmmmm, my list:
New In Town
Flash of Genius
Secret Life Of Bees
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (WW2 film - not graphic)
Marley & Me (sad at the end)
Bedtime Stories (a really good family show!)

I much prefer Netflix to things like Redbox. Redbox is $1 per night where as I can get 3 movies at a time and keep them as long as I need/want for $17 a month. Now, we don't keep them long so that NF is worth more to us...on average we get about 12-15 movies per month with NF. We still go to the local video store for the kids since they're always free there and the kids love going.

I <3 Redbox...but we only watch maybe 1 movie/week so it's beneficial for us..they have new releases and everything.

ITA with all of this! I couldn't stand Revolutionary Road. I would never have watched it if I knew more than I did.....Doubt was fine, but a bit dull.

Defiance was fantastic IMO. I really liked it....

Confessions of a Shopaholic is super cute I think, but I really like Isla Fisher. She's adorable I think, lol! I wasnt' a huge fan of New in Town, but it wasn't bad. The hubs really likes the James Bond movies if you haven't seen those.

I don't know...we watch nearly everything! :D :D :D :D Oh He's Just Not That Into You was pretty good. I didn't like it as much as everyone else for some reason, but it was ok. :)

Oh you guys SOOO rock! Thank you!! I need to add a bunch of these!

Kelly...we have the deal where we can get 2 movies a time and we pay $13.99 a month. It took us a week to watch two so I'm guessing we'll totally make it worth it. It costs $3 a movie at the video store so this is a much better deal for us. We don't have Redbox anywhere near us out here.

I wish we had Netflix or Redbox! I don't think Canada has that. We watch 1-2 movies per week, and each rental is $5.25 for new releases or $3.25 for older ones!

Flash Of Genius was soooo good!! I absolutely loved it.

Marley and Me was really good too. I also heard Gran Torino is good although I have not seen it yet.

DH and I recently signed up for something similar to Netflix, it's local though, so we pick up the movies in the store in town. We can have 3 out at a time.

ANYWAY, movies we've rented (and liked):

September Dawn (graphic near the end)
Defiance (excellent movie, but graphic again)
The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The Changeling
Slumdog Millionaire
Gran Torino
Taken
The Kite Runner
Marley & Me
Bedtime Stories

Personally, I loved 7 Pounds, but DH hated it. It's one of those movies, lol...you either love it or you don't.
