at the very least I'm going to rip off his arms and beat him with the squishy end.

So you know he's in basic training? They can't really spend money there...so I don't worry too much about what he might spend out of our joint account. Well...they spend $250 when they first get there on running shoes, stationery, toiletries, etc. I planned for that to come out of his first check which was on the 1st. No biggie. My ex was in the Army and I remember that there is very little need to spend money while in...I remember all he spent besides stamps, toiletries and phone cards was $10 for a class shirt.

Well David tells me in a letter two days ago that he needs $150 on the 1st for a class ring that he freaking ordered already. WTH? I went to college for 5 years and I didn't get a class ring...they are too expensive and we have bigger fish to fry!

So he calls tonight and when I'm done telling him how ticked off I am about the ring he tells me he did a $100 atm today for incidentals....stamps, shaving cream etc. and tells me he has $60 of it left and that he'll mail it to me and I say that's fine, whatever. And then he tells me, but they're coming to get laundry money from me this week. And I said how much is that? And he says $110.

and I'm like WTH??????????? my ex did his own laundry in basic. and david says, yeah, well I guess I could.

I told him I don't care what you do. You CAN NOT have $250 more dollars this pay period. FIGURE. IT. OUT. You can have one or the other but not both.

Must be nice, buying jewelry and paying someone else to do your freaking laundry.

I'm going to strangle. him.

He also forgot my birthday.

My ex wa sin the service and it was the same way...I told him to do his own stinking laundry.
If anyone was getting their laundry done it was gonna be me...home with the two kids...LOL

Aww, I'm sorry! My dh is in the Army, so I know how it is. He went to school in San Antonio last summer for a few months and while he's usually more uptight about money than me, every now and then he'd spend on crazy stuff and it's like 'what?!?!'
Stinks he forgot your birthday too!! I hope things start looking up for you soon! :)
 
Lena, you and I could be the same person I swear! My DH went off to basic when our girls were 21 mos and 5 weeks old... and it was the FIRST time we'd ever been apart in 10 years we'd been together. It's SOOOO hard to be away from them, holding down the fort at home and dealing with 2 babies... and then they add the money thing on top of it. It's not like they're making a fortune in basic anyway right?

Funny thing... MY DH told me laundry was mandatory... hmmm. :mad:

That really sucks!! My hubby forgets my birthday every year and forgets to tell me he used his card so there have been many times where I get a surprise of a negative balance. They just dont always think I guess. He has gotten better over the years though. Hope he realizes he missed your birthday and you can get the other stuff straightened out.
 
wow. I had no idea the military charged you for that kind of stuff. I know positively nothing about military life.

and forgetting your birthday... he'd better seriously make it up to you when he gets back. like a weekend at a B&B at the very least.
 
We're kind of going through stuff like that too with DH living in Washington...I keep up with our money and he's used to just going and taking out what he needs...well that's fine when he's here and we're supporting one household...but now that he's in Washington, he eats out lots and stuff...I had to remind him the other day that we're kind of supporting 2 households now and ne needs to think about that before he takes 200 dollars out of the bank. I also told him he needs to purchase some frozen pizza's and ramen noodles lol :)
 
Oh Lena Im sorry honey!! Its bad enough spending money like that but then forgetting your birthday is a BIG no no!!! Hugs!!!
 
omg. I wasn't married to my DH yet while he was in Basic, but i don't remember him paying someone to do his laundry, lol. And I don't know what all he spent his money on, like i said, we were just engaged then. I do know he sent me TONS of cute, sweet cards all the time :wub:

Your DH needs to remember that he has a family at home still; he's not a single soldier, lol.

Go ahead and rip his arms off and beat him though, that'd be funny!!!:D
 
UGH! For me I didn't spend any money except for when I got paid. They supplied us with things that got taken out of our first pay check. Besides the toiltetries I spent money on Vitamin C drops and that was it. And a class ring? That wasn't anything we had offered at all and if we did I sure wouldn't want one. I did buy the yearbook and photos but that was at the end of Basic Training and I was Air Force. But still, that sure is a lot of money. And we did our own laundry too, what is up with paying to send it off??

Hit your DH for me too, that is just impractical on so many levels!
 
Sounds like things my bil pulls on my sister when he gets activated (he is in the reserves & works on a base as a civilian)...he leaves town and suddenly the world is a big toy store.

I'm not too surprised he forgot your birthday when he is with the "guys"...but grrrr that hurts! Don't let it slide...speaking from 24 years of marriage...make him make it up to you! hee hee

Yep pull those arms off and beat him...but don't forget to take pictures...maybe the girls here could come up with a DUH DH kit?

Hmmm...I remember spending a bit of money in basic training. Of course, I was 18 and had only myself to worry about. Now, AIT is where I went money crazy! Laundry WAS mandatory for us. Our Drill Sergeant told us that he didn't care if we just put a pair of underwear in the bag, but SOMETHING from all of us had to go out every week. Sigh.
Whip his ass!!!!

Lena - I'm so sorry to hear that he forgot your birthday - that would be unforgivable in my household (fortunately for my DH, he remembers every date, even silly dates like our first date and the first time I came to his campus for lunch).
As for the class ring, that is something he should be asking his parents for, not for you to be taking out of the money you need to pay for you and your family's basic needs. What a crock. The ring sounds like a luxury not a necessity. Seems like he needs to re-think his priorities.
Hopefully, that laundry money is for more than a week's worth of laundry, otherwise that would be awfully expensive - you could buy a whole new outfit (or even two) for that money.
While I appreciate the sacrifice he's making for our country, he's not the only one making a sacrifice - you and your family are too. Hopefully, he'll get it together and soon...

aww, that stinks that he forgot his birthday. and him getting a ring for himself certainly doesn't help.

i have noticed that men often lack common sense.
 
OMG so sorry Lena! I don't know where he thinks he is, in some resort or something? Put your laundry in a bag and send it off? I hope this makes him think next time.
 
oh no he DIDN'T!! he'd better enjoy the rest of the time he has left before you get your hands on him! LMAO that much $$$ for stinkin laundry is ridiculous. :thumbdown:

my dh is leaving next week for a 5 month TDY and I already told him he's getting an allowance and better not screw with the rest of the money. He says he can live off hardly anyhting and doesn't plan to spend but we'll just see about that. Here we've been secluded to an island with little to shop/do and he's about to move to CA with a Target within walking distance. *yikes* Oh and did I mention that I HATE him for getting to go to Target. hahahaha
