I lost a small piece of plastic

I lost the little black cover piece that slides into the hot-shoe mount on my camera somewhere in Italy  The lil one you have to take off to put on an external flash. Is this a big deal? I don't know if leaving that unprotected will effect the connection with my external flash.

Thoughts? Should I try and find a new one or just let it go?

(Currently uploading the first 700 photos from the trip, lol. It's going to be a while before I get any posted I think.)

Honestly, I don't ever remember having one on mine. I don't know if that means I didn't have one ever or if I lost it and never noticed, lol. My speedlight is always attached to mine, so that might be why I didn't notice...I don't think it's a problem to not have it on there.

I have a place for an external flash on my camera (although I never use one) and it never had anything on it to protect it so I dont think its a huge deal.

Awesome, thanks guys :) I don't keep my SB-600 on full time, cuz I try not to use it unless I REALLY have to, lol. I'd rather wait another day to take a photo than use the flash, even if it does do a really good job, lol.

Don't know where mine is either. Didn't even realize it was gone until a few months ago when I starting pricing external flashes LOL. Hopefully your camera will be just fine without it :)
