I literally want to cry.

In fact I did cry. Our leaves this year have been gorgeous..the weatherman on our local station talked about how for some reason this year everything just came together for us to have a gorgeous foilage. My yard this week was like a fall wonderland and I have loved getting out with the kids and of course using it as my own private portrait studio.

Today I came home and found that our yard man had shown up and destroyed it all. Like completely obliterated my beautiful fall landscape and turned it into a bare, dirty wasteland. :(

Honestly I was heartbroken and kind of livid. Because first of all it's Sunday...we just don't do yard work on Sundays and I'm pretty sure DH told him that when he hired him. Second of all...he told me last month he wouldn't be back til spring probably and I was not expecting him nor did I budget to pay him this month. And honestly WHAT WAS HE THINKING??? I mean I know he's a man and probably doesn't think with a photographer/scrapbooker brain..but GEEZ it could have waited until the leaves had dried up and turned brown. These were so beautiful in yellows and oranges and reds.

My mom just made Ella a CUTE new fall hat that I had planned on taking pics of her in tomorrow.. Avery was counting on playing in the leaves tomorrow and just ugh. I'm just venting and UGH UGH UGH!

And to top it all of I have to PAY the man for it. :cursing:

He came when you did NOT ask him to and did NOT want him to? Don't think I'd be paying him if that was the case.

Well I never told him not to come..the last time I paid him the told me that he probably wouldn't be back til Spring which was fine by me and so I took that to mean he wouldn't be back til Spring. So I guess I should have clarified that more with him.

The more and more I think about it though I'm thinking I just may not pay him. I'm pretty mad about it.

so do you just have somebody that randomly comes when your yardwork needs to be done and then you pay them? I can see your frustration, but do they not call you first or you call them first? that sucks, cause our weather has been crappy and I would have loved to get out in the beautiful fall leaves :(

Well we just hired him in the Spring and the deal was he would come by every 10 days or so in the summer and cut the grass etc as needed. Which worked fine b/c it always needs it in the summer and I didn't have to worry about calling him and stuff. The past 2 months he's just come by a couple of times to cut the grass b/c it hasn't needed it as much as in the summer and from what DH told me and what he told me the last time I saw him he wouldn't be back til Spring b/c there wouldn't be anything really to do. I had no idea he would come in and attack my leaves especially on a Sunday afternoon.

I guess it all comes down to miscommunication or whatever, but I'm just sad and hoping there's still enough in the trees to blanket our hill one more time before they're all gone :(

Plus I have raging pms today so that didn't help..if he'd still been here when I got home who knows what I would have done lol...hopped on his lawnmower and tried to run him down or something lol..."DON'T MESS WITH A SCRAPPER'S FOILAGE"

I know its not the same but is there a park or maybe a relative's house you can get the photos at? I know how you feel though as we have an easement on our property for cleaning out the ditch. I cannot tell you how many times the county has just shown up to do maintenance and messed up something in our yard.

I would have cried too. UGH!! I really wish you didn't have to pay him... you never agreed too.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Could you go to a park or is there a college/university nearby that might have leaves? Those probably won't be cleaned up and you might be able to take photos and let the kids play.

One year I took my niece to play in the leaves at a college because they had a lot of trees. Got some great photos and she had a blast.

We live in the country so I can just walk out in the woods. It's just my front yard was so pretty. Hopefully enough will fall in the next week or so.

I hope you can find some leaves and foliage at a nearby park so you can get some more great pictures before the end of autumn.

I feel sorry for you. I was angry at my husband just a couple of days ago because he had raked the leaves in our garden. They weren't even in pretty colors like red and orange and stuff, just green-ish turning yellow, but I wanted to take pictures in it first!! So I totally can imagine how you feel. I hope you'll get more falling leaves in the next weeks!

Are you doing better this morning, Nikki? I would be upset too. I hope that the leaves just start falling so you can have your beautiful cover again. ((HUGS))

That sucks, nothing like getting your hopes up for something and then having it not work out the way you wanted. :(

Reminds me of a thread a while back on CM about a photographer who had asked permission from a farmer to use his field (full of yellow wildflowers). When she got there with the clients, she discovered that the farmer had "helped" and mowedes down the field for her. All she was left with was a brownish clean field.

Hopefully the leaves will cover your yard quickly and you can get a shot.
