I just cleared...

...98 GB of scrapping stuff off of my computer! I purged some, but mostly just put the stuff I don't use as often on my external drive.

Still. Holy crap. 98gb of scrapping stuff? And that's not counting the billion and one kits I left on my computer, double that on the hard drives, and the giant folder of stuff I still haven't gone through?

:dies:

It literally took all night to transfer my stuff to ONE of my hard drives (I'm backing it all up on both drives)

When did you last purge your scrapbooking stuff? How much did you get rid of or move?

I've been purging my supplies for the past 2 days and am not finished yet. I didn't write down how much Gb I had before I started, but I've deleted a lot already!
What frightens me the most, is the amount of kits I have I haven't scrapped with yet. I'm tagging my previews so I have a very clear view on this now.... I'm embarrassed to tell.... (74 kits and counting...)
That includes free kits, RAKs, prices I won over the past 4 years, but still...
I can't buy anything anymore!! At least not untill DSD! ;)

I was thinking "OMG, WOW" then realized you said you moved it to your EHD. I keep everything on my EHD, it is my main hard drive (don't know why as I do have a 1TB internal drive that is like 90% empty)... I was hoping for some big secret to purging so much stuff! Darn it, lol, I wanted secrets!! ;)

I have a 1TB EHD and recently bought a 2TB EHD. I'll be doing some rearranging and reorganizing shortly to work on getting my current EHD cleared off a bit. I got rid of over 300GB of scrappy supplies a few months back but they were like seriously old stuff... I mean, 2004 and 2005 old!

Hmmm, well, I thought I had a shopping problem, but in 2 years I have a total of 41 GB of scrapping supplies... Guess I need to catch up! :D:w00t::D

Hahaha, no. Of the stuff that I actually deleted deleted, it was like... 30 gb, but it was a lot of the freebie stuff that I got before I started scrapping.

I rarely touch the stuff on my EHD, and in fact, I date the files and I always tell myself "If I haven't gone back to retrieve this by ____ date, then I'm deleting it." Except I never do that... I may get rid of 2-3 kits, but that's about it, because most of them I can't bear to live without, even if I'm not using them.

I HAD to do something, though, because this little warning showed up that said my computer was FULL. As in, totally full. It had been moving a little slower lately, and I think it's because I was just bogging it down with stuff. It was time to let go of a few things and move a few things...

I was a little embarrassed by the fact that I moved about 50 kits that I had purchased but not used... hopefully I go back and retrieve them eventually. Lol.

I think that's why I don't store stuff on my internal drive, I kept running out of space on my old computer so I got the EHD and freed up some space and realized it ran so much faster so now I am afraid to put anything on it (even though its a new computer with a bigger drive). I'm a dork. LOL

Hey, 30 gig is a great amount to get rid of completely. :) I have tons of stuff I need to go through still. I have a hard time getting rid of stuff that I maybe, might, one day, use. LOL Even when I know I probably never will.

yikes that is a lot!! I just cleared a bit the other day, but I was just casually cleaning LOL and not doing a serious purge. I maybe deleted 3GB of stuff. peanuts!!

I got rid of stuff yesterday, not sure how much I deleted as some of it was photos as well! I had so much crap on my ehd, it was like a dumping ground for old kits, blurry photos etc lol.

I'm always purging....sometimes even daily. But I only delete twice a year (January/June). While I'm looking for what I want to scrap with sometimes I find something that needs to go and I move it to a "To Delete" folder and if it doesn't get used by the next time my delete date comes up it gets deleted permanently!!!

What frightens me the most, is the amount of kits I have I haven't scrapped with yet.

but I have been trying to use my unused kits lately have think I have actually put a dent in that folder :) I want to challenge myself to use at least 5 more before I spend my SR's :) and I purged & backed up on Mar 28th :) and it felt sooo good!

In 2009 I quit all my creative teams and took a 3 month break from scrapping. In that time I did a HUGE purge, got rid of all the stuff that made me feel guilty for not using but that I knew I didn't want to use(I apply the FlyLady rule about not keeping stuff around that makes you feel guilty, even with my scrap supplies!). It was SO freeing to say, "Yes, I paid for this but I'm not going to use it and I'm okay with that."

Then when I started scrapping again 3 months later, I tagged all my unused kits (54) and began working my way through them. Now I keep a written list of kits as I buy them so I can cross them off my list when I use them. I have 12 right now, since I splurged a little this weekend, but before this weekend I was at 6.

I have so many unused kits that, honestly, I could scrap at least 2 years, never using the same kit twice and not touch them all (we're talking a layout a day kind of scrapping). I really need to correct that problem. Over the years I've purchased kits, I've downloaded freebie kits, I've been on CTs, I've traded kits with designer friends and I've 'bought' kits at stores I sold at (where we all had full access to one another's product). I always had great intentions of using things right away or working my way through my scrap stash but it hasn't happened. I really need to do some serious purging. Some kits look great from previews and then I open them up to realize the quality stinks. I get disgusted and close them instead of just deleting them. I really need to work on that, especially given my whole backup issue with so much data to backup and the exceeding data plan bit. ;)

Wow, even 30 GB deleted is impressive!

I FINALLY tackled my "new download" (ie, waiting to be organized) scrap folder this weekend. I've been lazy about organizing it for at least 6 months and finally did it all. Now it's empty except for previews of my 21 unused kits. (About 1/3 of those were bought or DLed as freebies during the last month as designers left and came to SSD.) It's so nice to see it empty that I almost don't want to shop with my SR!

In the process I backed up to my scrapping EHD (which is about 110 GB and always months out of date, hence my love for daily online backup) and had to delete about 10 GB of stuff from that to make room. Most of it was older stuff I've already deleted from my computer but hadn't gotten around to deleting from the EHD. And since that felt so good, I ended up deleting 2-3 GB of older supplies from my laptop HD. The one thing that didn't feel good was moving Dani, Fee, Susan, and Lauren's kits to my non-SSD folder. :(

Purging is something I need to do, but just can't get myself to do it. I would definitely call myself a "Scrapbooking Hoarder". There are so many kits that I just don't use, because my style of scrapping as change and some of the kits I got when I was really new to digital scrapbooking back in early 2008 that when I look at them now they are just not good quality kits, but still I hold on to them.
