These people that we know (not know, know) bought this absolutely beautiful, handsome Golden Retriever about 6 weeks ago. After 3 weeks, she posted an ad on a local classifieds website, looking for a buyer for this dog. At the time, I did not know who she was, but emailed for some info.
Background: We are Golden Retriever LOVERS! Our very first baby was a big, red, beautiful, handsome Golden. He died 2 years ago from cancer - he was 6 years old. Broke our hearts and we miss him soooo much.
Fast Forward: we moved out to an acreage (8 acres) the summer after he passed away. We inherited (with the house) a 5yo. chocolate lab (crossed with something - we think pitbull - he's a really nice dog for one that we wouldn't have picked) and then we bought a female Golden Retriever puppy a month after we moved out here.
Okay, so I emailed the lady just for poos & giggles and then realized that I knew her. They bought this dog 3 weeks prior from an acreage and don't think that they can keep him because DS is allergic to everything under the sun. They need to find a home for this dog. I talked to DH and we agreed that we could take him until either they found a buyer, decided they wanted to keep him, or if we decided that he fit in amongst our "funny farm".
We met with them, saw the dog and we agreed that we would take him on a "trial" basis - 2 weeks or so - give them time to make up their minds and us a couple of weeks to see what kind of a dog he was.
Today: This will be his 4th week with us and I don't want him to leave! He is beautiful (red), handsome, well-behaved, quiet, calm, great with the kids, loves our other animals...he's more than we ever expected and so much like our first Golden....uggghhhhh.
I call the family today to touch base and let them know that we would like to have him. They're not decided whether or not they want him back.
They really miss him, their kids miss him...but they live in the city, they have no yard, 4 kids and a pretty small house. They're wishy-washy on the whole "having a dog" thing.
I gave them until Wednesday to have their decision and I'm so afraid that they'll take him back. I want him...I want to keep him. We can offer him so much more....
Here's the dog that I wasn't supposed to get attached to...
