We weren't going to gifts this year for each other as we got SO much for the kids, etc. But then Dh surprised me with a kindle! I had a nook on my wishlist early on, but didn't really tell him about it... he knows I love gadgets and to read so he researched eeaders and got me the one he thought had the best reviews. :) A nice and unexpected surprise!

Anyway, I've already downloaded one book I've been wanting, but would love to hear about any great reads you've found... hook me up!

How fun Stephanie! I don't know what you like to read but i just finished "My Sister's Keeper" and it was awesome. I also like Nicholas Sparks and his latest "The Choice" was really great too! I love my Kindle and take it everywhere. Enjoy - what a great suprise!

My Sister's Keeper was really good. Although completly different then the movie. I also loved Nineteen Seconds by Jodi Picoult. I would love to see it made into a movie as well. It was a very powerful story. My daughter and I both read it. My favorite by Nicholas Sparks is The Notebook I think. Then would be A Walk To Remember. Although A Walk To Remember was alot different then the movie as well. It made me cry in both the book and the movie. The devotion of the lead character in both books is what really got to me.

The Last Song by Nicolas Sparks (it's a movie too next year)
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner (next on my list after I finish The Help--I've read the kindle sample and want it!)

I don't have a kindle, but if you haven't read the Twilight series, I recommend it :) I am not a Twilight junjie, but I REALLY REALLY enjoyed the books...and she also has a book called the Host that is suppose to be really good~

I'll be interested to hear how you like the Kindle. I preordered the Nook for myself for Christmas but I won't get it until February. I can't wait to get some books for it too! But, right now I am reading Stephen King's Under the Dome. It's pretty good... and long. But so big, it's what convinced me to buy the Nook. :)

I'm currently reading Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, the second Dexter book. Interestingly, I went to buy it at the bookstore the other day and they didn't have it in stock, and paperback isn't available there until Jan 26th... I'll be done with it on the kindle by then! :) Dh just picked up Stephen King's newest Under the Dome and I think when I'm done with this, I may pick it up and read alongside him. I'm already loving this thing though...

Yes jenn- I too am uncomfortable reading huge books like that- it takes a lot to keep the darn thing open!

I got an ebookwise for Chritsmas. I couldn't bring myself to spend that much LoL JD Robb's In Death series is great if you like romance/crime stuff. :)

Thanks girls- yes I love crime (both fiction and non-fiction), suspense, horror, fiction... I'll occasionally read a "chick" book, but prefer dark stuff... isn't that funny? My life is so vanilla, and yet I love reading about serial killers... I'm weird!

My favorite books I read over the past year in no particular order.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
The Book Thief by Marc Zusak
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Several of these are fairly dark/disturbing or need to be read with a box of tissues nearby.

In that case, DEF JD Robb's series. Also, The Lincoln Rhyme books by Jeffery Deaver are really good (He wrote the Bone Collector, if you saw that movie), Creepers and Scavenger by David Morrell are good as well. And the OLD Stephen Kings i.e Carrie, The Shining, Needful Things, IT, etc.

im so jealous! i really want a kindle!Im gonna be really good in 2010 and maybe santa will bring me one next year

That's awesome you got a Kindle!!! Woot! Meg and I must have similar reading tastes ... and I've read many on Misty's list too! I definitely recommend The Help. I also like Malcolm Gladwell (non fiction).

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood is good and a bit disturbing. Not in a serial killer kind of way though, more like apocalypse type disturbing (and to this day chicken nuggets make me a tad uncomfortable). I am planning to read her new one, The Year of the Flood, soon.

Enjoy your Kindle!
