I have some old letters that I want to scan, but I'm wondering if I should just take photos with my phone. Is there an advantage to scanning over photographing?

There's no harm in getting all your equipment now. If things get too busy the rest of the year, just play around with things and learn. Enjoy it!

I was thinking about buying that Kodak scanner at some point. My thought is that I'd be better off scanning my old negatives (1970's and forward) vs. scanning the photos to get a better scan/digi-image.
