I bought a dress, ok not me

but my dh bought me a dress. We went to TJMaxx looking for a wallet and sunglasses. ummm that was going to be my gift to him but he jumped the gun so darn it I need to buy him something else.

Anyways we were both walking past the women's dresses and I see it and so does he I touch it and was like wow that's really nice, he says ohhh Babe si go try it on.. Huhhh. You need something for Helena's Graduation, OK grab and I try it on it fits like a T and I was like wow I'm really getting a dress! I haven't worn a dress in like forever I think since before I had Gio :o I showed my dh how it looked and he said that's you, GET it!

I get home show Helena and she says wow you got a dress, you can't wear that your going to upstage me. What? but your dad bought it for me and I never wear a dress. Well then we have to go dress shopping again for me, What? No you will wear what you have and call it a day. Now she's complaining to her friends on skype... :thumbdown: S*** now what do i do? :confused: I wasn't even looking for an outfit, I was going to wear black slacks and a nice blouse but dh really wanted to buy this for me... :crying:

Wow. Its amazing. Your daughter will also look beautiful, no need to worry about what you wear. She'll be happy to show off her hawt mom.
 
Obviously I don't know your daughter, but it seems like typical teen behavior and I'd do nothing. Or I'd make a deal that I'd split the cost of a new dress with her if she wanted it enough to pay half. But what I wouldn't let her do is ruin your happiness with your new dress. It's beautiful!

Rachel, yes my dh gave her the evil eye and said Helena please. I may do that deal. She still has the tags on her current dress I have the $ for my blouse so I'll tell her that's all i have so take it or leave it!

You could always wear the slacks and blouse to the graduation and then make your man take you out alone with you on a hot date! :D Dress is FAB! Totally up to you what you decide though.
 
around here, most graduations are casual for the guests. The last few I've been to, most people were wearing jeans and at most nicer work clothes. I live on the West Coast, so we are generally more casual, I think. The dress is gorgeous though, so I'd wear it for a wonderful night out on the town!

Julie that's the thing we like to dress up and look NICE for these occasions If I wore jeans and dh wore jeans then she would be mortified b/c this is a dress up occasion in our book.

I'll def get my sis's opinion on it also cuz she's wearing a dress :|
 
Um, I am totally a mean mommy. LOL I would tell my DD to stop the teenage dramatics and get over it. Seriously? If she was a little more mature about it and said something like "Wow mom, that is awesome. Do you think we could find me something too?" that might of been a bit different. But her running to skype and whining about it would be a sealed deal for me. Again, I am the mean mom but that is HONESTLY what I would do.

BTW, that dress is gorgeous! I can see why your DH wanted it for you. I bet you are beyond beautiful in it. :)

shhe has nothing to worry abuot 90% of the photos will be of her in a grad gown. I think I got one photo of my daughter before she got dressed for graduation.

This!!!! Don't let her get you ruffled, she is just being a teenager. Tell her you would never dream of upstaging her... it takes more than a dress to do that, its an attitude. Her dad loves her mom and this dress represents that, and she should be happy to see you in it. ;)

It's stunning! Wear it, feel good about yourself and teach your daughter a lesson in the process. A - don't tell your mama NO B - her mama is a hotty and deserves to strut her stuff! lol
 
Mary do you think alot of this also has to do with Charlie? Especially after her banquet? Maybe she just needs some good old momma loving and then she will be good :wub::hugs:

Angie I did at first but her reaction to the dress was like mom r u serious? I didn't want to argue so I walked away and said I'm wearing it b/c your dad bought if for me and I never ever wear dresses :/ Def gonna have a heart to heart tomorrow :)

That's a gorgeous dress and I bet you look stunning in it! If you want to wear it to the graduation, then wear it... AND have hubby take you on that hot date that others have mentioned :)
 
I'd be a mean mom too and tell her to deal with it. But I wouldn't turn down the hott date idea afterwards. I mean that dress is beautiful and you can't wear it enough, I'm sure! Hopefully your daughter sees things better later. :)
 
Teens really aren't rational, are they. What is she, a bridezilla? Sure it's her special day, but whoa. If my daughter complained to me about her outfit on her graduation day (she's 16, so it's coming up) and then gritched to me about what I was wearing and went online to upscale the complaint, that'd be it. That's sheer entitlement! I'd wear the dress anyway.
 
Oh, wow, that dress is gorgeous!! I'm voting you wear it anyways! Sorry she's being like this - I don't think you should feel bad at all! Hey - at least she's not griping because you'll be wearing something embarassing!! lol, my mama had this super ugly coat that she loved and wore everywhere, but us kids used to give her so much crap about. Oh, this thing was so horrible. She ended up being in a car accident wearing it and the paramedics had to cut it off of her... she jokes about it now!

Sorry, off topic there lol. But seriously, that is an amazing dress, and I hope you do wear it!! Has she had a change of attitude yet?
 
Thank you all.. We had a talk today and she said she was sorry she thought it was way nicer than hers and didn't mean to make me feel bad and she said I should wear it b/c her dad bought it for me and it's true I haven't worn a dress in years and should go for it!
I did buy her some new shoes to go with her dress since she decided she was wearing her first choice and not going to be a brat about it anymore.
We hugged it out and now im'a wear it!!! woot woot!!
